Though I don't like GEO's pro India coverage I like the fact that they fight for minority rights and leftist segments of society, some of whom believe in secularism. They maintain debate-debate being the historical foundation of Ijtehad which promoted discussions and debates. Allama Iqbal associated the death of Ijtehad with the fall of muslims. Debate must go on, religious political ad economic or any other. GEO has done this admirably.

Another thing to note here is that the people complaining against GEO, their own families and they themselves watch geo, which is the reason both in ratings and viewership it is the highest watched Pakistani news channel. So its hypocricy you see here.

Ok first of all, as I can see you are from Pakistan and high chances, you are Muslim. According to Islam its forbidden to call someone hypocrite.

I don't know about you but our entire family on the Pakistani side watches geo and ARY. Second I just made a general statement not aimed at anyone. Just criticizing the common way the society behaves. I have written an old article on media and the thoughts expressed here are the same.

It is very similar with Indian media and its impact in Pakistan. Pakistanis watch Indian films, Indian dramas and are obsessed with India without giving their own media a chance. In such an environment we ourselves are to blame for the success of bollywood in Pakistan. The same thing applies here. According to ratings and viewership GEO is indeed the most watched, GEO Kahani, GEO news and GEO entertainment are at the top. If Pakistanis don't watch them then how are they there. So first fix ourself. We elected idiots like Zardari who's reign was the worst for Pakistani nationalism with Haqqani and Jehangir, all critics of our policy rather than tough talking people who took America to task... so lets be truthful here.

My post wasn't aimed at you personally. Just stating a reality. We made GEO the best news outlet in the world. Now when they have taken $ from US to report less aggressively against India and US we are to blame. Why not switch channels and see if that works.

Sir how about when they are spitting venom against Pakistan Army and ISI? How about when try to defame Pakistan by deliberately helping anti state entities? How about when they are passing info to talis regarding PA's movement? How about when they are hosting likes of Najam Sethi, Hamid Mir, Aamir Liaquat, Asma Jahangir etc? How about when they are at forefront in demotivating the Nation just after every bad incident? Sir U are calling it most watched channel so that is why the NS govt intervened to shift its place 20 paces up when it was actually down? Voice of minorities are raised at each and every channel. Did Hamza Abbasi rise his voice for Ahmadis on Geo? May be he wudnt have been snubbed if he had done so on Geo. Why is that Geo requires help of NS for its ratings and gets max amount of money from current Govt? How about when things are hot in IOK, same channel tries to divert attention of people by highlighting Balochistan as equivalent to IOK? Even they had admitted to have done treachery and apologized for that but nothing happened to them. Why is that Mir Shakil is convicted in so many cases but still enjoys roaming around freely ar will? Last but not the least, Geo Tv is banned at my place and so is The News and Jang Paper.

I beg to differ. None of geo drama is nominated in LUX style award except BM and that is already an old drama now. HUM, ARY, and now A-Plus are the best entertainment channels. I don't deny the fact, it managed to survive after a huge turning point. But it has been impacted greatly.

That is a whole new debate and I agree Pakistani watch Hindian movies. But even then they are supporting the revival of Pakistani cinemas.
That is very obvious, Pakistanis are supporting Pakistani movies now, so they earn a decent amount of money.

In addition, even if it was a general statement, one has no right to call another Muslim, 'hypocrite'.

I had been fan of Dr Shahid Masood who openly challenges everyone to prove if he has taken even a single penny from anyone and then goes on rampage calling spade a spade. Its sad that they are banning him for 45 days for just a speculation and doing nothing against likes of Hamid Mir, Asma, Najam Sethi and Geo when they openly spit venom against Pakistan and its institutions. If I am called biased then I wud have quoted Mubashir Luqman as he bashes likes of Geo like anything but yes he crosses limits at times.

You must watch "The Reporters" of yesterday's date. They are planning to target one anchor of ARY. (High chances its Arshad Sharif) and blame it on Taliban. Few other shows are in list to ban.
This is so sick to ban Dr. Masood's show for bluntly speaking. And funny thing is, freedom of press was given under a dictator and being taken away under a democrat.

Oh boy geo,s program was responsible for seath of Ahmadis in Sindh they are secular only when it suits them
I dont thino they are liberal or secular i clearly remember them issuing dates for fall of pp govt everyday and now they mock other channels for doing the same
Well when a certain political party aids them in a certain province its bound to get higher ratings

I criticize that. They have no right to abuse the military but as I said if there is only one view in the media everything will be very, very boring. But then why don't other nationalistic channels have more viewership? I feel people watch geo because it is according to them the best. Perhaps in the past 2 years it may have taken a hit according to moonlight, though I haven't seen this.

I have had my say. I prefer more nationalist news channels but as I said, diversity in views is good. Everyone should have their say.

Also let me say it is important to have patriots in government and anyone can see my stance there as I have criticized Hussain Haqqani and Asma Jehangir. But in media the responsibility is to inspire debate. That is why people with clashing ideologies should sit together and talk. Debate is the basis of news channels. Opinions can differ there.

The way I see it if people wanted nationalism they would vouch for royal news, aaj tv or channels that featured Zaid Hamid... the people themselves are confused. I don't like criticism of the military as it is the only institution that is not corrupt. But different views in a media channel are no issue. The people who make policies should be nationalistic though.
