IDN TAKE: Ordanance Factory Board's Dhanush: The POWERFUL Indigenous Howitzer

Competition creates efficiency.

400 guns from OFB might take 10 years with their current production targets. While private firms like Bharat Forge is promising a rate of 100 guns a year.

Do we continue the same mistake of putting all our eggs in OFBs basket? My intention is not to make OFB look bad, we know the public sector approach. If you don't, fly AirIndia instead of maybe Indigo. Not the best comparison, but hope you get my point.

Good Day!
problem is OFB is involved in both Dhansuh and OTGS.

Where are you getting these figures ? Is their any reliable source to prove this figures valid or it's just made up in the air ?

if ATGS IS ready why make Dhanush and if Dhanush is all that capable why bother about ATGS !! Two paralle program is waste of energy and resources.

Sir look at timelines and then the false impression of duplication will go.

The Dhanush 155/45 has successfully cleared all field trails and the first batch is under user trails by army. Its 114 155/45 guns in 2 years.

Then there is Dhanush 155/52 ,an upgunned Dhanush by OFB with little to no investment , which has "successfully cleared first round of field trails ". Two more rounds , after which deliveries and user trail by Army will start. It will be by 2018 end when we will see first Dhanush 155/52 in army. 300 Will be procured and production will run upto 2021.

Then there is ATAGS which is at the moment separate from OFB. Its DRDO along with Private sector majors . Its after development trails will start in 2018, and it will be ready for Army by 2020. By the time OFB 155/52 production comes to end , it will be a competition between OFB and L&T/Kalyani for production rights for ATAGS.

You see nowhere is any clash. The OFB gun is for immediate needs and DRDO gun will be true next generation Indian Gun. Resources aren't going to be wasted.

If we choose only ATAGS , Army will loose 5 years, if we dump it , we loose the chance of modernisation. After all the Dhanush is still an Bofors upgrade.

I do not think there would be any Dhanush 155/52. It order would/should be split between ATAGS and 155/32 as it is the most economical and logical thing to do.

The 155/52 is an upgrade to 45 caliber gun , which has already cleared its first trails... The 155/52 and 155/45 were displayed too by OFB side by side.

problem is OFB is involved in both Dhansuh and OTGS.
OFB at the moment is seperate from ATAGS. they will have to lock horns with the private sector even for its production rights.

.
Just one off topic question though, no matter what calibur can't we just replace PETN in the shells and use ICL-20? Bigger bang for the buck..!

Ok no offence, but I'm not here to entertain people with figures made up in the air. Idea of a forum is to exchange knowledge, people could be right or wrong. Regardless, a little respect is highly appreciated.

Back to your question:

Here is N.K Sinha - GM of Gun Carriage Factory, OFB - Jabalpur saying current rate is 1 gun per month and will be upgraded to triple capacity (3 guns per month after 18 months) - watch from minute 5:40 in the video.

So its not difficult to count how many guns can be produced in 10 years at a rate of 36/year?

And here's Baba Kalyani - Chairman, Kalyani Group saying they have the capacity for 100 guns/year. Watch from min 3.00 in the video.

On topic: I hope I'm not being mistaken as anti-public sector here. The best thing that can ever happen for our country is if our public sector can deliver within our expectations. Now we can ask for ourselves, did they?

Good Day!

Didn't mean any disrespect, if you feel offended, my apologies.
