IDF failed in Lebanon War because soldiers didn't pray

Interior Minister Eli Yishai declared this week that the Israel Defense Forces failed in the Second Lebanon War because soldiers did not pray or "raise their eyes to God", Channel 10 reported on Tuesday.

I didn't know that the Israeli leadership was so religious?

IDF failed for only two reasons,

1. No clear political objectives.
2. No clear military objectives.

Both very important to bring any conflict to an end to resolve issues.

The main objective was stopping Hezbollah proviocations and it was achieved.

Problem is that many Israelis were expecting a decissive victory. But when it comes to guerilla its hardly possible. Results of such war can be estimated only after years. Now 6 years later its pretty clear that Israel was victorious.

Have you ever wondered if not hiding behind women, civilians and kids and OUT OF UNIFORM - why quote Islamic republic of what have you, are so bad at war. In less than 24 hrs we had so many strip off uniform, run off or wave white flags and simply surrender to us in Iraq.

Jewish military is surrounded by so many countries that have all these oil riches and yet Israelis are more intelligent, smarter and better off than these others. All I hear from citizens of these countries that despise isreal is big talk - but they nor their people or their respective countries can't touch that little country that is smaller than the size of New York. It's a feel good thing, than blunt or honest. Superior weaponry trumps all. Simple.

Israel is provided the funds and weaponry by the United States to ensure that they retain their upper hand over their Arab counterparts. People who use drones to bomb huts in tribal areas, killing men, women and children not proven to be guilty of any crime in any court of law, people who send CIA killers to kill on the streets of Lahore should not be waving the upper hand of morality.

People who's uniformed soldiers have committed torture, raped children, bombed funeral parades, helicopter gunships fired at arab journalists for sport, beaten kids on the street for sport, made fun of thirsty kids by making them chase water, those people are going to talk about why the enemy is hiding behind civilians? How many wars have you fought on your own soil that you can claim that you won't conduct warfare in any scenario midst civilians? You have come waging war on their soil, they will fight wherever they can.

Waging war is not your birth right, its a mental sickness perpetrated by your government.

Hezbollah is a very intelligent, cunning and efficient adversary. They fooled the Israelis by having them trade prisoners for dead bodies, making them believe the bodies of the soldiers were POW's. Even Israel knows it's only real challenge is Hezbollah, and thus are enraged at Iran claiming that Iran backs them.

No. There was no underestimation. And neither are the Hezzies that good. How do you target "combatants" who use civilians as shields, put up their bases in civilian areas and masquerade as macho men standing up to the military might of a powerful country?

Like I said earlier, in any conflict, you need two solid objectives - political and military - in that particular order. Both were absent during the conflict. Period. Contrast that with the Kargil win for India.

Apparently Israel's conventional bombing raids had no effect on Hezbollah fighters, but did destroy civilian buildings/bridges.

Hezbollah lost 500-600 men. About half of them in air attacks.
