Idea of G3 with RPG

Such things already exist , they are called 'Rifle Grenades'. This concept has been around for quite some time now:

Yep brilliant idea. Such a combo would be called BBQ the shooter.

Small problem the RPG blow back issue.

I've had my doubts about the credibility of the internet based Military Professionals ( e-Mils shall we call them ) on this board ( and some other boards as well ) , at least you should have known about the concept. This sort of info is given in just Bacis Mil traning.

I can't see how these two are comparable. Yes they are both grenades, but operate and act in totally different ways. Rifle launched grenades will always have its limits in range, power and trajectory.

I dont think its down to a question of comparing the two, the person who started this thread had an idea of mating an 'RPG' with a G3 , not about comparing the two.

The Rifle Granede achieves what he is intending to do.

True true, I think what I am trying to say is that the differences between the two calibers aren't as prevalent as most people think, the major difference being the KE of the two, the 7.62 will almost penetrate 4x the thickness of a 5.56. The things you mentioned above sounds more as failures in the systems and maybe not as much as the ammo it self. The Americans and others seem to have problems, which was mainly due to manufacturing issues, but the latest 5.56 has been improved with regards to stopping power and range by increasing the weight of the bullet and pressure in the case . Tests have shown that the British L85a2's longer and free-floating barrel seem to, minimize some of the disadvantages of the 5.56 caliber by enabling it to achieve a higher velocity and hence an increase in KE.

No really, I do agree with you that Pakistan's diversified battlefield makes it difficult to stick to one single caliber. I.e. mountain, desert and open plain scenarios would require a caliber with punch, like the 7.62x51NATO. In my opinion, the current G3 would be sufficient in that role. In Urban settings, in which Pakistan is seeing more and more action, you would need a modern 5.56x45 rifle with ss109 77 grain Match ammo or something similar, equipped with some sort of battle sight or scope for fast acquisition. There are a lot of opportunities out there for such a weapon, but in the end it's a matter of $$$.
Since Pakistan, at least for now, is regarded a major non-Nato ally for USA, one could imagine that you could get excess m16's and m4's which you could upgrade to suit your needs.
