Watched the England vs SA game today. SA got hammered. SA is a decent side, but England are too much at the moment. SA got a worse drubbing today than Pakistan did during the entire ODI series. Pak played some pretty close games. England look solid contenders this year on their home soil. The England unit looks like a very solid ODI unit. They have a lot of batting depth. They also have a decent bowling line up. Their fielding is extremely good. They don’t leak many runs and backup their bowlers.
This Pak side has a lot of work cut out. Some of its players are still young and obviously inexperienced, but complemented with a few experienced players. I agree with the sentiment that the only real class batsman we currently have is Babar Azam. I also rate Imam pretty high, but he needs to be consistent. These two are technically the best we have.
I honestly hope that our top order clicks. I believe that Fakhar Zaman is an awesome player on his day, but he needs to develop consistency. He is aggressive which is good, but he needs to learn not to throw his wicket away with rash shots. Sometimes you have to play according to the situation. If Fakhar and Imam get going at the top the rest of the batting unit could fire. It will all depend on top order for Pak batting. How they deliver and build a partnership.
Our bowling which is traditionally our strongest suit leaves to be desired. I hope this is just a temporary glitch. We have some decent bowlers, but Shaheen Afridi is leaking way too many runs. He is being cleaned for sixes and boundaries. He needs to seriously get his act together.
Fielding has been terrible. I expected a reasonably good fielding unit since we have athletic young players who also fielded brilliantly during PSL season. Let’s hope that what we saw during England series was just a bad series. I hope youngsters like Shadab and the rest of the pack can find their groove.
I hope this Pak lineup remembers that we are playing ODI and not T20. Need to conserve wickets and build partnerships. Taking risky boundaries is not necessary, but taking singles and doubles is very important. Let’s see what these boys do. The lesson today was keeping wickets in hand. SA lost the plot when they lost too many wickets. Run to ball ratio was never a problem for SA.
I believe that Aussies and England will play final. Smith and Warner are back. The Aussies look like a completely different side now.
