Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Shahryar Khan has admitted that if the national team was unable to participate in next month's World Twenty20 in India, the body could be fined by the ICC.

Shahryar told the media in Lahore that in case Pakistan pulls out of the World Cup, the PCB would have to pay a penalty to the world governing body of the sport.

ALSO SEE 'Yet to get govt clearance'
"I just spoke to the Prime Minister's secretariat today and until the government has not given clearance to send the team to India for the World T20," Shahryar said.

"All these stories about the ICC threatening us with legal action or the Prime Minister having cleared the tour are not correct.

ALSO SEE 'No pressure from ICC'
"We have sought advice and clearance from the government to send our team to the World event. The Prime Minister's secretariat has said they are reviewing the situation and will let us know soon," he added.

"If we pull out our team from the World T20 then we will have to pay a penalty to the ICC," the PCB chief said without disclosing what the amount could be.

But a reliable source in the PCB told PTI that the government was likely to clear the tour to India.

"It is a routine protocol that the PCB is following but all the vibes from the government quarters is that prime minister Nawaz Sharif will give clearance for the team to go to India," the source said.

Shahryar said the Pakistan Super League had created the expected hype and given the interest it created at its launch, it is here to stay.

On Monday, the country's Cricket Board said it is not under any pressure from the ICC to send its team and a final decision remains solely dependent on government clearance.

. .
Was Australia fined for pulling out of the U19 World Cup in Bangladesh? No, then why should Pakistan. In fact they have a serious concern, as Shiv Shena has threatened a Pakistani umpire and ICC had to keep him out of it. Australia had no such concerns.

@jetray : I hate you:angry::angry:, I was just posting this thread.

Ontopic : I think now it's all about ego of PCB and a great nation. PCB should withdraw from the tournament and should pay the fine to ICC. PCB is too rich they have ample amount of money.

Ofcourse, lots of sarcasm involved :rofl::rofl::rofl:

. .
PCB should pay fine and care for pakistani players security.

Afterall its pakistani pride, money doesn't matter.

Refrain from taking cheap shots.

On topic: Pakistan will play, genuine concerns are being looked into by BCCI-which has also promised fool-proof security.

When was the security a concern for pakistan? They have played in situations when things were even more worse.

PCB is trying for a quid-pro-quid to get a indo-pak series to earn more money. Thats the reason why they are indulging in such posturing.

Pakistani players were directly treated, if i am not wrong. If it was any other team like Australia or England, they wouldn't come; or would raise similar concerns. Why do you have a problem with us raising our concerns. Which BTW are being looked into by BCCI.

That comes with the package.

Is this first time they are being threatened ? Every time its the same case, in a country like india there will be some tom , dick and harry who do that job for free. Shiv sena always has opposed pakistan playing in india whats new in that?

Australia or England play for money period. They go by assessment of their own intelligence agencies who by the way are know for all sorts of shenanigans. Raising a concern is correct way of doing it but why so much dilly dallying when the tournament is just few days away? Doesnt it look unprofessional and totally undecided.

Nope , ICC events are conducted by ICC and participation is required.
Bilateral series does not come with in ambit of ICC. ICC cannot force a bilateral series. Let me know if I am wrong.

You are all right that Pakistan played in the worse condition more than today but that time one or two groups were oppose to Pakistan and the govt could controlled them easily,But when we watch to the India of today we are not looking any soft corner for Pakistan in the hole society of India, even the supporter (Indian) of Pakistani team are defeated in the stadium.

PIA office was a fine example for us. Again we will play, we just need better security which is being provided. What's the problem in that?

So the concerns are genuine? and the answer to your question is welcome to Pakistan; to put BCCI under pressure, not a bad move.
