India plans to send NDRF teams to
Myanmar to assist the neighbouring country in flood relief works, as rescuers in rain-battered nation are struggling to reach isolated regions.
"We have readied NDRF teams with all necessary rescue and relief materials to send Myanmar. An aircraft is also being kept in readiness. We are awaiting for a formal communication," Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju told PTI tonight.
A team of about 200 personnel of National Disaster Response Force is expected to be send to Myanmar after India receives a formal communication.
Sources said Ministry of External Affairs is in touch with the Myanmar Foreign Ministry officials and details are being worked out.
NDRF teams were sent to Japan and Nepal in the past for rescue and relief operations following earthquakes in these countries.
When contacted, NDRF director general OP Singh confirmed about the readiness of the contingent.
Floods and landslides in Myanmar have claimed at least 46 lives and affected some 215,000 people. Tens of thousands of people remain cut off and swollen rivers are now threatening to inundate low-lying southern areas of the country.

Dispatch of Relief materials to Myanmar
On the request of the Government of Myanmar, India has rushed relief supplies to its neighbour Myanmar which has seen heavy flooding due to rain in the past few days. In terms of immediate response,
India has arranged 100 tons of rice, 10,000 packets of noodles and 10 tons of medicines like Chlorine tablets, anti-diarrhoeal tablets and other life saving drugs.
The
three aircrafts carrying relief supplies will take off tomorrow morning and provide supplies to Mandlay and Kaleli in Myanmar.

PM expresses grief and solidarity with Myanmar in the face of Flood Emergency
Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has expressed grief and solidarity with Myanmar in the face of the Flood Emergency the nation is facing.
"Sad to learn about devastating floods in Myanmar. India stands shoulder to shoulder with Myanmar in this hour of need," the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister also shared a link to a press release issued by the Ministry of External Affairs that details the Disaster Relief Support given by Government of India to Myanmar in response to the flood emergency

Indian Air Force sends Relief Material to Myanmar
The Indian Air Force on 06 August 2015 pressed into service its strategic airlift platforms, the C-17 Globemaster-III and the C-130 J Super Hercules, to send about 100 tonnes of food and medicines to India’s Eastern neighbour, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, which is reeling under floods and landslides due to unprecedented rains. Yesterday, one C-17 aircraft delivered 48 tonnes of rice, noodles and medicines to Mandalay directly, while another airlifted about 45 tonnes to Guwahati. One C-130 airlifted 10 tonnes of relief supplies from Delhi and landed in Kalay at about 1300 hrs on 06 August 2015. The C-130J thereafter returned to Guwahati and delivered all the load brought in by the C-17 to Kalay in three sorties today.
The C-130 aircraft became an important element in this mission as the runway length at Kalay is just about adequate for operations by this aircraft and the formation of an air-bridge between the two bases was critical for efficient air delivery of load to Myanmar.
The immediate extension of assistance to Myanmar is indicative of the strong ties of friendship between the two countries.
