IAF To Order More Tejas Mk-1s

IMG_0020-759596.JPG

The Indian Air Force is processing a contract for 20 additional limited series Tejas Mk-1 light fighters -- the ones powered by the underpowered GE F-404-IN20. This will be in addition to the 20 already contracted for a few years ago. While base infrastructure is coming up expeditiously at Sulur, first Tejas deliveries to the IAF will be based at the Bangalore-based Aircraft Systems and Testing Establishment (ASTE) for upto a year or more to iron out induction-related troubles. Once the IAF is satisfied that the fighters are well-supported, and all potential issues with HAL are sorted out, the aircraft will be shifted to Sulur. It has emerged that the IAF may choose to either base the second Tejas squadron also at Sulur, or even at nearby Kayathar, where it is in the process of building up a brand new air base. The Tejas is scheduled to achieve initial operational clearance/capability (IOC) in December this year, with the first squadron inducted by next year.

So this takes Tejas count to 40, making it at least a 160 Mk-2 versions.

.
can we compare this ac with any of the popular ones in world.where it can be deployed

.
Tejas is basically a multirole intercetor...

MKII will see more strategic deployments...

.
so which version of LCA will have kaveri engine on it?

or is it going to be used in AMCA? while lca is fitted with foreign engines

.
As u must be knowing Kavri is Now NOT a part of LCA project...

To the best of my knowledge Kaveri is meant for future ACs and could see its presence in MKII ver. If developed in time, which otherwise...of course will use EJ200/414.. As the RFI has been issued.

Kaveri will see its applications in a number of platforms ...

.
This is old news being pasted by shiv by applying new masala ... what has happened to shiv and his breaking stories ......Sad

.
Yeah , it is an old news
Iaf had announced purchase of addtional Tejas MK1 in 2009 alone
That is becoz Tejas MK1 is still much more better than Mig21 and Mig27 currently in indian service , and with IAF having decided to retire its fleet of Mig21 and Mig27 by 2017 ,they are needed to fill the numbers
What it means is that number of tejas mk1 go to 28+20 ie 48 aircrafts
while no of Tejas Mk2 will be 100
so total no of tejas being ordered goes to 148
with 4 having already been delivered as of june 2010

.
anyway that a good news to our indigenous sector...and also for our failed project;)

. .
Awesome ... though I can't wait to see the first LCA with kaveri engine

. .
I need this to come from some official source. Indian government ka koi bharosa nahi!

.
i have a question
can this ac can fly with full load in leh, ladakh??.if it is then in mrca how 4 aircraft got failed with full load???.is this ac better than those or not.

I agree...let's first induct a full squadron of these planes (Mk or Mk1)...and then ...too many fluffy talks and statements!
