IAF to match top guns in Nevada

That would be AFTER.....plus 124 Mig 21 bisons......as combat fighters......They can't take Mig 21s as far as america since it can't hold enough fuel you see.

nope before - after 2015 we will start getting mrca, pak fa, lca mk2 - all extremely good fighters...... its only now that the iaf has some problems in this department

Joint exercises is all about learning..learning...learning nothing else.

And I believe IAF is very good at learning, looking back what happened in the past (even in real war) and rectify it.

MMRCA competition + heavy presence of UAVs are the corrective action of Kargil war experience. Nobody is perfect and learning is always a process.

that's correct. one improves over time.

Why doesn't IAF use Mig29s during exercises held within India? Our Government cannot afford to spend 20 million dollars every year!!!!, and our is fifth largest economy. Apart from exercising with British and French we need exercise with Israelis because these are bunch of guys who know F16 inside out.
we do hold exercises with the israelis - in fact we have a pilot exchange program with them right now - meaning some lucky indian pilot is flying israeli f 16s as part of their air force and their pilot is flying our mig 29.
india and israel had their first air exercise in 2005 and have continued to do so.

soon we will also be having exercises with the germans.
we also have exercises with the russians

That was for that guys comments about having only Mig 29 and M2K before 2015-2017......when we have MMRCA, and Tejas MK2 we would definitely send them for bilateral or multilateral war games like Red-Flag.......but I am not in favour in sending PAK FA......unless USAF fields F-22A raptors in those exercise.

Rs 100 crore three years ago how much it will be now ? almost equal to the price of a brand new LCA !!

touted to be the closest one can get to real war , after spending so much money what they suppose to learn with in these expercises under restricted senario of not using the entire spectrum of your plane's capabilities ..
How important netcentric capabilities are for example, I'm sure the problems IAF had the last time without IFF and propper data link connection between their and other western fighters, lead to the upgrades of IAF fighters with common IFF transponders and data links now, especially because we have AWACS capability today as well.

I M SURPRISE THAT ONLY SU-30MKI PARTICIPATING
THIS SHOWS THAT BEFORE 2015-17 INDIAN WILL HAVE ONLY SU-30MKI AND MIRAGE 2000 UPGRADED

The exercise in in 2013 and only Mig 29 might be upgraded till then and since MKI is available in high numbers and offers the advantages of long range and 2 pilots, it's not that surprising that they send it and not Mig 29s, or Mirage 2000s.

I would like to see the Phalcon joining the Red Flag this time...will have huge experience in the operational conditions and net centric warfare provided by the FSW at nellis.

True, but I think we have too less of these aircrafts to send them that far away to exercises, especially when we are even behind PAF in that field at the moment.

means??????

Less numbers of AWACS and they only have to focus on one boder, while we have to spilt our AWACS to west, north and eastern borders. The A50 Phalcon is highly capable, but with 2, or 3 aircrafts so far we are mainly dependent on ground radars at the moment and that for quiet some time.

I think it would be better to train with it right now when the CBMs are taking place and the region has less tension and when the time actually comes we can make maximum use of the knowledge gained with what we have.

In this case numbers are not key. The Phalcon is in a whole different planet in terms of capabilities as an AWACS 1 A-50 based Halocon is more capable than 2-3 SAAB ERIYE. The PAF is even worried of Phalcon complete jamming the SAAB given the power of the Phalcon.

But I doubt the IAF will send it as it harbours very sensitive equipment which IAF will want to keep secret for as long as possible. Same reason MKI in 08 were limited and put in "training mode" by IAF.

It is, because IAF has to cover a way greater area and no matter how capable the A50 Phalcons are, it will be an operational disadvantage with just 2, or 3 of them, which is why I don't understand why they take so long to order additional once, but they might wait for DRDO AWACS.

we should order at least 10 phalcons pretty expensive but would be a hell of a force multiplier

Not to derail the thread or step on someone's tail but what's up with Indians terming everything "mother" of something ? Maan k paon main Jannat hai so by naming it mother of "something", that "thing, whatever it may be" automatically becomes inferior to what India has ? Just tryna get the gist of it, it's giving me sleepless nights.

well the mother of all defense deals the daddy of defense deals the mother of all bombs the father of all bombs etc etc etc its a loose term to describe something of high importance for example the MMRCA Tender has been called the mother of all defense deals because of its high importance cost etc

the reason being it used to convey how big something is you know? yeh savto bada deal hai 10.4 billion usd 126+ aircraft
