its 3 + 2 = 5 .
That's the Phalcon awacs based on IL 76, plus 5 more from DRDO on Embraer/ boeing platforms.

read again...
will be collaboration as is the case with most "Le indigenous" Indian defence gear
Aww I got my hopes up- I thought the IAF were going to order anoth 7 PHALCONS to make the total 10 PHALCON AWACS in service
Oh well- the plans still seem pretty decent. Should make the IAF the undisputed remote sensing power in the region.
Can anybody confirm whether PAF has received all the 4 Erieye from SAAB ?
So, basically IAF's AWACs will be : 5 - A50 + 3 EMB 145 + 7 A330/767 .... We certainly have a habit to keep everything available in our inventory...
In near future IN will also demand some 5-6 AWACs... And we will have AWACs on 4 different platforms...

@sancho I mean not just AWACS but all remote sensing tech in aggregate from the SIGNIT/ASR/ELINT a/c of the IAF/ARC to the remote sensing satillites of the NRTO.Not really, because they are already far behind our opponents and by the time these new AWACS might be available, our oppenents will have upgraded or get even more capable once in their inventory. Capability is not all wrt AWACS, but to provide a constant coverage alongside our huge borderlines, that's why we need numbers in first place not 3 different plattforms, with 3 different radars, over a timeframe of more than a decade.
The best way would have been 5 x A50 Phalcons + 10 x EMB 145 DRDO AWACS. The DRDO systems could be later upgraded with L-Band arrays, or GaN modules to improver their capability, while keeping the fleet easy to maintain and cost-effective.
