What's new

IAF to acquire 450 fighter aircraft in future, says Air Force Chief RKS Bhadauria

.
For those of you who couldn't comprehend the article and simply rant by looking at the number "450", here's a breakdown for the ignorant lot

The 450 aircraft will be procured over the next several years with the phase out of Mig-21 & 27 and eventually Jaguars

  • 40 LCA Mk-1: Currently in production
  • 83 LCA Mk-1A
  • 100+ MWF: Design has been freezed. Metal cutting for prototypes to start later this year but due to covid, might be delayed to early next year
  • 100+ AMCA: Final design has been recently displayed in DefExpo 2020. Fifth gen tech, particularly sensor fusion, advanced avionics and stealth under development
  • 70 HTT-40 Trainers: To support the current Pilatus fleet
This gives a total of around 400 aircraft which indicates atleast 2 more squadrons of Rafales might be procured

Also, due to cash crunch...IAF might scrap MMRCA 2.0 and instead go for more LCA Mk-1A's in addition to the current order of 83 and more MWF's down the lane

Next 15 years _ 84 Tejas.. that's not even 6 aircraft per year. Excellent
That's not 83 LCA over the next 15 years...it's LCA Mk-1, Mk-1A and MWF combined over the next 15 years.

Well genius....next several years = 2 years or 200 years...make it clear
15 years and 83 aircraft is clearly written in the article..if you are reading it with a fish eye lenses and narcissistic indian ego that's not my fault.

That's poor reporting I'd say
450 aircraft over the next 35 years. LCA's production rate has recently been upped to 12 per year and will be 16 soon. With Su-30's line freeing up and no potential orders in the future, it might be modified to suit the upcoming MWF

IAF Chief has contradicted CDS statement since the 114 aircraft would be of medium category while the LCA are of light category and they can't supplement the role of Rafales or the likes

I still doubt if we'd go for 114 foreign made jets. The more feasible option is to acquire 2 more squadrons of Rafales and go with the MWF

450 aircraft in 35 years is not that much.... Not for a modern air force and a big one..

. .
450 is the requirement to replace the retiring fleet. Indian will get them. Regardless of what combination they chose.

Pakistan concern should be the planned induction of 450 new jets.

This is what I know from sources. India is going to have a 40%+ defence budget cut & Tejas is the only option available for IAF. HAL has stopped assembly lime of SU30MKI & Super Sukoi engine upgrade will also not going to happen. 4 Rafale will come in July P8i orders also cut down.

Indian biggest issue is the range of Pakistani bvr for which India has no current or future solution.

RKS Bhadauria Is the IAF Chief. He isn’t Just blowing steam out of his rare. If he said 450 than that’s the actual projected requirement of IAF.

.
All current active squadrons of IAF would be retired in the next 35 years.

Currently, IAF's approved strength is 42 Squadrons (~840 fighters).

This is now going to be cut down to 22 squadrons (~450 fighters) in the next 35 years.

As PAF F7PG pilot said that he still can server fantastic tea with his craft. What a Randi Rona lousy neighbor we got.

With respect you are also guessing. IAF officials have a habit of making cock ups of a maga scale. Being nationalistic is one thing. Following blindly is another. We can only go by the facts of the published article and not your ideal scenarios.

These are not mega claims. On the contrary, What the IAF chief is confirming is that IAF is going to cut the squadron strength of IAF by ~50% in the next 35 years.

IAF seems to be confident to operate with just ~22 squadrons instead of 42 squadrons in the future as all future fighters being procured would be multi role.

Okay. You tell me how will IAF have 850 new fighters if it plans to procure only 450 fighters while retiring all of its current inventory.
