Zee Media Bureau
New Delhi: The Indian Airforce successfully test-fired an advanced version of BrahMos land-attack supersonic cruise missile on Friday.

As per reports, the supersonic cruise missile was test-fired at 1200 hrs at the Pokhran field firing range in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district.

The flight conducted today met its mission parameters in a copybook manner and the weapon hit and annihilated the designated target, officials confirmed.

BrahMos is the world’s fastest anti-ship cruise missile developed jointly by India and Russia.

BrahMos is a short-range ramjet supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land. The name BrahMos is a portmanteau formed from the names of two rivers, the Brahmaputra of India and the Moskva of Russia.

The missile has a range of 290 km, has a maximum velocity of 2.8 Mach and cruises at altitudes varying from 10 metres to 15 km, claims BrahMos.

The land-attack version of BrahMos is fitted on an mobile autonomous launcher. The mobile land-based configuration of has achieved several advancements over the years in the form of Block I, Block II and Block III variants.

It is also capable of being launched from submarine from a depth of 40-50 metres. In 2013, it was successfully launched from a submerged platform. Meanwhile, BrahMos air-launched version is getting ready to be soon be test-flown from the Su-30MKI fighter of the IAF.

Reaches to its target faster than 350 Km one. Has S maneuver top down attack. Very very difficult to shoot down.

Well i don't know/Confirmed about the maneuver but also heard the Same About it. Yeah Super Sonic will hit the target quickly

.
Correct me if I am wrong, these are land attack land launched versions, the same as army ! right !!! just another test use !

Supersonic vs subsonic.
Subsonic Babur and Raad have their own pros and that is why India is going for Nirbhay CM.

HAL had handed over the first BrahMos missile-integrated Sukhoi to the Indian Air Force (IAF) during Aero India 2015.
What i understand is that HAL has integrated the Brahmos with SU-30MKI. Development of Brahmos A for SU-30 MKIs and Mig-29s is a separate venture undertaken by BrahMos Aerospace. Any update on that?

Range and cost are the reasons for that.

Downing a low flying subsonic missile is not particularly difficult, detecting, identifying and tracking is. Hence this,

IAF to procure 8 aerostat radars

An aerostat is an unpowered helium-filled balloon tethered at a certain height above the ground. It is equipped with surveillance and communication equipment. It can remain deployed for a number of days at a stretch, scan a wide swath of area and is particularly effective for detecting low-flying or surface objects, making it a cost effective alternative to aircraft in peace time. A request for information issued by the Ministry of Defence a few days ago seeks a batch of four, six or eight aerostat systems, which can be deployed at an altitude of 15,000 feet and above, have network-centric compatibility so that they can be integrated into the IAF’s Air Command and Control System along with other assets and possess electronic warfare capabilities.

I think LLRs are also quite potent in this regard and mainly designed to track low flying objects. If LLRs (reportedly) cant track Raad and Babur then howcome Aerostat system wud do so?

What kind of LLRs have you tested against? I don't think Pakistan has any, if yes then please provide the sources. Also if you see the image posted above you will see that a Aerostat based radar doesn't suffer from the handicaps of traditional ones, i.e. curvature of the earth and obstruction by terrain.

These are top of the line AESAs.
