IAF tender for 126 fighters cleared....finallly!!!!!!!!!!!

. . .
Joey, you forgot the Jags,

We dont need heavy bombers Adux. What we need a strike packages with HARM's, etc. We dont need to bomb Pakistan a lot. We just need to focus on some locations in Pakistan. That can be easily done once air superiority is achieved using our vast number of planes.

I though Pakistan was degraded from Major Rival to Minor Rival and will be No Rival at all by 2012...
Why do you want to bomb us poor beggars if we pose no thread at all?

that would be 2030 sir....

Begger's and Pakistani? Never....We are just off to greener pasture's, we dont to invade your country anymore than you want invade us.

Valid arguments Con, I appreciate your sincerity!

The current cost of an EF-2000 is $120 million dollar with spares, weapons and training. There is no use in comparing with the saudi deal since they are buying everything off shelf.
Now since IAF purchase a unprecedented 126 pieces with an option for 90 more and only 18 will be bought off the shelf and other 108 will be made in India at HAL.

How much of a difference in cost can be made by having it made in India to the overall cost of 120 if EF is made in India?

.
Remember 50% offset deal.. means 50% will be made in India and EADs have to buyback those 50% from Indian DPSUS or RUR's et al's.

.
Yes, But Offsets is only a transctional cycle, as far as IAF is concerned.
So how much can we expect an Indian Made EF-2000 to cost along with Spares, training and Weapons. Also we have to look is, With Turkey and Saudi Deal going through, the per unit cost of EF will come down.

.
Americans have F-22, F-16, F-15, F-18, S-7Viking, A-10
Bombers F-117A, B-2, B-1B.............

The USAF has only F-22, F-15 and F-16, with A-10 being for CAS,..

USN operates F-18. Not to mention they also have the economy to support those planes.

.
Since for IAF lovers the MRCA is the eternal carrot being swung in front of us by those babu's.
It would be great to have 126 +90 EF's in India along with 230-Sukhoi - 200 LCA's ;;;

Anybody got any idea how much the pricing would be, especially since the current budget for MRCA is 1. $9B or 2. $12-15B

.
We'll have a 230 strong Su-30 MKI fleet plus some 37 new Jaguars. Thats a very decent addition to the fleet since year 2000.

The Baaz and Vajra are getting pretty nice upgrades as well. We dont have to be in extreme hurry to get the new aircrafts. The buggers would charge more if we were in a hurry. Lets buy it slow...and BIG. Thats the way India buys. BIG.

Considering the life cycle costs we're going to be draining a very significant chunk of our national wealth on these aircrafts. And helping countries like France earn money and then go around and suppy our adversaries.

Lets not get childish and ask for the sexiest aircraft on the block. Relatively speaking the tangible returns on the investments are almost nil. Keep calm and build local industry.

Now that I've said this, I hope the Ministry of Defence speed up the procedures. There appears to be too much of paper work and stuff. We shouldn't lose time on paper work. Thats a crime.

That is why it is FAR FAR better to go with Typhoon than Rafale. The bloody French sell India a tank and anti tank weapons to counter that tank to Pakistan, or vice verce. They mint money of off both the sides.

If we have to chose b/w Rafale and Typhoon, i say we go with the Eurofighter GmbH. We would have an equal partnership, there would be industrial benefits to the nation, that is apart from the direct offsets, more employement, and that is once place where we would be able to exert a good amount of influence as UK, Italy, and others are verrry supportive of India.

I think what IAF requires is very potent next gen interceptors. If IAF inducts another heavy aircraft,we will end with far too many bomb truckers. SU-30,Jag,Mig-27,Mirage,MRCA.
Imagine SU-30 being escorted by F-18 and vice versa on a bombing run. That is a very expensive option.

Also what would MRCA give which SU-30 can't? Except for the range of western weapons and AESA,nothing additional. Western weapons can be brought from Israel and integrated into SU-30.We would adding a whole lot of logis headache, with only a AESA radar as advantage, that too only on American aircrafts.

What are we spending here? 9 billion. I would say put part of it in to increase production runs of LCA.This will help in boasting the numbers and we get a good interceptor to cover the large area of the country. The remaining money should be put into next gen SEAD/DEAD/Interceptor and also to handle escort work during a bombing run.

Imagine PAK-FA/5 gen aircraft going in first and clearing off the enemy interceptor and air defences with SU-30 following suit.
This would a very economical option. Here now we will end with money for MRCA,then additional funds for LCA ,plus extra money for the 5 gen!

I dont know,if there was a fore thought we could put this money on the JSF development. What was UK's contribution 2 billion. The largest of all the partners. Even if we put 3 billion, which gives us a premier parther status, then there remains 7 billion dollars.
Even with $100 million tag,we would be getting around 60-70 birds..

Wouldn't that be a potent combination for IAF?

F-18 Does a job of a Strike mission far better than the Su-30, and that is fact. We cannot get the whole range of western weapons from Israel. The truth of matter is, we can afford this Eurofighter and Sukhoi's with Air-Superiority and Air-strike mission, Typhoon is ahead of 30MKI, RCS, Weapons, CAPTOR Radar, Super Cruise, Payload etc. India plans to increase its fleet strength to 1000 Fighters. LCA's will be made around 200 Fighters, EuroFighters 126(84 options maybe), 230 Sukhoi's, 100 Pakfa, , along with it 84 jags, 55 Mirage, 66 MiG-29, 856.

I think we should retire the Mirage's, Jags and MiG-29's by 2025. Increase the size of PakFa production along with LCA

Sukhois
LCA
EuroFighters
PAK-FA

That is a welcome line-up
