Nirbhay is still under development.. It is not the right time to discuss its integration with MKIs..

You are right,it should be discussed after its 1st test flight. But saying so I will also say that it is fun to discuss about weapons. That's why we come here bro.Don't you agree????

Nirbhay is undergoing terrain mapping feeds.. It will be ready for first flight by early 12' if everything goes well..

Possible, the whole speculation about it, it's specs and the integration into our fighters is nothing but hyping the mass and more interesting than what range the missile has, would be, what size it has and if it is planned to fit in the internal weapon bays of FGFA and AURA UCAV. A missile that flys such ranges can be detected by the enemy, but integrated into the weapon bay of an 5th gen aircraft, the range of the weapon is not that important anymore and would be detected way later as well.

IMO, it cant be put into the Internal weapon bay, as the mass would be more to be fit into Internal W Bay.. We are stuggling to integrate the brahmos with MKIs that too with a much lesser range and probably less payload too.. Its all speculations, untill we see it.. Good thought Sancho..

Hey buddy,a greater range always does not mean a heavier missile.Like the Tomahawk which has a much much greater range yet is much lighter than our 3 ton Brahmos. The Tomahawk uses a much slower but fuel efficient turbofan engine, hence needs much lesser fuel and is lighter. It was designed for attacking long range stationary targets. But Brahmos is primarily an anti ship missile, hence needs lesser range but a much greater velocity to cut down the reaction time of ships' reaction time and inflict the maximum damage. So it uses a faster but fuel hungry ramjet engine, hence needs much more fuel and is 2 and half times heavier than the Tomahawk.

I don't think we should pay more attention to Nirbhay if we LRCM is getting ready by 2014. I mean it is 1000 km range with a speed of Mach 3.2...we might not be able to use it on Su30mki but in rest of the formats i think we should not spend much purchasing Nirbhay when a better missile is on its way...
