New Delhi, Nov 30

In the second accident involving the frontline Sukhoi-30MKI of the Indian Air Force (IAF) this year, one of the Russian-origin combat jets crashed Monday near Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, but both the pilots ejected in time, an official said.

The aircraft, which took off from Bareilly airbase, was participating in a fire power demonstration.

"The aircraft crashed during an ongoing exercise. Both the pilot and the co-pilot are safe," an IAF official told IANS, requesting anonymity.

The official refused to divulge more information.

This was the second crash of the Sukhoi combat jet since its induction 12 years ago. In April, a Sukhoi had crashed in Rajasthan due to the failure of its sophisticated fly-by-wire system. The pilot, Wing Commander S.V. Munje, and the co-pilot, Wing Commander P.S. Narah, had managed to bail out in time but the latter was killed after being apparently hit by the falling debris of theaircraft.

The Su-30 was inducted in 1996 and the IAF fleet currently has 98 such aircraft. This will rise to 230 by 2015.

Of the Su-30s in the IAF fleet, some were bought in flyaway condition from its Russian manufacturer while state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) manufactured the others under licence. It was not clear which category thecrashed jet belonged to.

The Su-30 has won universal acclaim from the air forces of the US, Britain and France whenever it has been fielded against them in war games. Eight Su-30s had participated in the prestigious Red Flag exercise with the USAir Force at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, last year and had more than held their own against their counterparts’ F/A-18 and F-16 combat jets.

Really Bad for IAF, Whats going on with Su30 ?
There must be a very very thorough investigation ..

It suggests, either IAF is not capable enough to handle its aircraft maintenance or the russian tech holds its worst record of crashes.

Now it'd be important to see which one crashed, the one manufactured by HAL or the one made by the russians.

Its worrisome for a plane to start crashing whose induction process is not complete as yet.

Opes! This is indeed a bad incident thanks god that both pilots are safe this time around.

I think reason for crash must be made public after IAF complete its investigations.

To me it seems Mig 35 is Now 100% Out of MMRCA.
Guys spend Money Get Typhoon or Rafale.

Brother, money is no problem for us but the question is... what's the use of buying an expensive aircraft if we can't fly or maintain it right? Regarding the increasing crashes the IAF is maintaining a 'head in the sand' attitude. This is shocking and this has to change ASAP!

Very True.

What i meant was, way back in 80s India didnt go for economy and got the French Mirages.
They have had excellent service period.
French are Expensive but they give good equipments.

If we reach a handsome deal on Mirage Upgrades together with Rafale Purchase, The Crash rates will certainly reduce and Indian safety record will drastically improve.

IAF lost 12 aircraft, including seven fighters this year.

The fighters included the frontline Su-30MKI, which crashed over Jaisalmer in April killing one of the pilots. The others were three Russian-built MiG-27s and MiG-21s each.

The crashed trainer aircraft included the HPT-32 and Kiran Mk II. A transport aircraft was also lost over Assam.

They were practising how to eject out before crash.

Hunn...Got it ! we have better experience then PAF for 'what to do before crash'.:hitwall::hitwall:

Yaa,its interesting that we've hardly lost any Mirage 2000 in last 25 years of its service in IAF...its mostly the russian stuff which goes down.

i think there is problem in traning becaus IAF facing the lack of tranir dew to this new pilot mis one step of traning they strat traning from darict jet's tranir i think su30 is very hi tech fighter and havey type it need highly tranind pilot's and may be there is some tec prob but one thing is good that pilot's are safe
but it need
