IAF issues RFI for C 27J Spartan

Well surely, there's got to be alternatives than this.
of course there are...We have well thought about the alternatives.
An-32 is under upgrade in Ukraine.

and C-27 Spartan is surely the front runner in this field bro. Even the USAF uses this plane.
Its a good plane So nothing to worry.

@ Tshering22
Believe me it is a very good A/C in its class, that is the only criterion. ALENIA is a multinational, not just Italian. Sonia Gandhi is not in the picture.

P-8I, C-130J, C-17 GM-III, F-16/F-18, F-35 and now C-27J???? Are we making a museum of world and atleast american aircrafts???

How is it a Museum ?

We are getting these aircraft for our logistics need as , they can take of with a smaller runway then our current fleet.

Actually the C27J is an Italian aircraft from Alenia, it just has similar US parts of the C130, for commonality reasons and lower costs.
You must keep in mind the situation of IAF, with all the old HS 748 and AN 32. MRTA, or RTA which should be in a comparable class of C27J, won't be ready anytime soon, so adding already operational and proven aircrafts is a good idea.

From what we know so far, the future IAF transport fleet could look like this:

Saras - very light transport
C27J / RTA 70 - light to medium transport
C130J / MRTA - medium transport
IL 76 / C17 - heavy transport
(A330 MRTT - which can carry 45t of cargo, while doing the tanker role, would be a great addition too)

Not a bad mix of specialised foreign aircrafts, in lower numbers, as well as new developed aircrafts with Indian content, in higher numbers.

With an Italian foreigner ruling our country, naturally Italians will get the prime importance from now on. We'd have been better off giving order numbers to Antonovs rather than be dependent on foreign firms.

We've already ordered C-130s, C-17 III etc. And we're still ordering to pamper the Italians rather than move towards enhancing ties with existing friends by ordering Antonovs.

Again a political hand in ordering from top person's country.

Dont read in so much  in just one article. I bet u hate the Congress

That is a beauty, a poor IAF couldnt get it, No ones mistake but them

My first post after a ban for trivial reason -- its good to be back..

A very expensive option at that - I believe it had IAF had cleared the trials and MoD shot down the acquisition based on costs -- rightly so , we could have got more IL tankers for a singly A330

I think i mirror Kinetic's statements- In the last 6 months - 1 year the no of RFI's and acquisition that have come across is mind boggling...Even i am not sure whats going on.

The An's are being upgraded , so whats the need for C27 ?

Upgrades were urgent after the crash of one An 32s, but it's not more than a life extention till the can be replaced by MRTA. The C27Js instead, could be a replacement for even older HS 748 too.
