IAF hopes to build its own combat aircraft within 20 years

well let iaf decide what they want to do...they should start with outsourcing then concentrate on core manufacturing to themselves..since HAL is laggards that is why iaf wants to take everything in its control..the problem with hal is they are not working in a efficient pace,people who are there ..know that the deliverables are not related with their promotions

And IAF is holy cow who loss six time more aircrafts againsts enemy in war despite numerical superiority. They cannot handle a work for which they appointed & they jump in others speciality field. They are ready to fly MIG-21 till 2025 but cannot induct LCA before its FOC.

This is universal rule that every one designated a work in which they have speciality.

The weirdest thing in all of the report is not mentioning the already running project - LCA Tejas . Because Airforces around the world do not really design and manufacture their own aircrafts , makes no sense .

It is happening in Pakistan, but that is because PAC is not a separate entity. That being said, for the IAF to to do this seems to be reinventing the wheel in terms of aircraft manufacturing facilities. Perhaps there is more to this and might be due to certain ill will between the IAF and HAL? @Dillinger

There is too much on HAL's plate, and both the IAF and HAL, had some differences in the past regarding the trainer development for the IAF. I am thinking that this new project from IAF would most likely be on the basis of Tejas (take the knowledge from it). And try to develop something that is suited to their needs, and in competition with HAL.

In a manner , yes , but the nature of military in Pakistan is different . But what the Indian Chief is indicating , it is actually quite surprising . In the presence of an already running project and another one in the pipeline , what sense then it makes to have an air force manufacture its own aircraft ? Has the IAF then lost hope in the existing ones and wants to go for a fresh start ?

You did not understand my point. HAL's initial purpose, its primary customer is the IAF. Hence if the IAF goes into competition with HAL; where is their cash cow?

well actualli your right in the last part but it is not because of hope or anything else its deu to HAL being too occupied with all very diff programs where as making a fighter jet is highly specialised job and cant be forwarded to a comapny that is making all kinds of aircrafts even Soviet russia had different companies for heli copters , tranporters , bombers , fighters and so on

You did not understand my point. HAL's initial purpose, its primary customer is the IAF. Hence if the IAF goes into competition with HAL; where is their cash cow?

The statement by IAF chief hints at something else , again very surprising . well brother what he is hinting to is that we go for a sepprate company that specilizes in fighters onli and it will be directli in control of IAF so whatever it comes up or dosent IAF will be responsible in a way iots good but way too ambitious for india to afford as of now ...in future maybe

Soviet Russia still had these firms working in competition and they were NOT part of the VVS(Soviet Air Force).
And what will the janata do? Provide multi million dollar contracts for what? in the same scale as the IAF?

brother about the first part IAF has some of the greatest idiots in Power who have no respect for precious lifes of Young Pilots and are happy to keep Flying coffins while are reluctant to induct LCA as it has not got FOC and is 500 Kgs haveir than they wanted it to be ...trust me its more about money & control than anything else

Neither I am attached with HAL nor IAF but I didn't want to replace a dedicated but mismanaged company with a armed force whom main job is defending India from ariel threats.

If India will do after 20 Years......then Pakistan has already started the whole production of J-17 (Despite the matter of technology transfer from China).........What will be PAF after 20 years....making generation 5 aircrafts..:ashamed:

We have been manufacturing aircrafts like Su 30 MKI at HAL (engines included)
