This was a public exhibition, not a real practice drill. The intent was only to put up a display for the audience.

Then it should have been better than practice drills. They had all eyes on them.

Untrained eyes that couldn't distinguish between good military practice and a spectacular display. What is good in combat may not be what impresses crowds, and vice versa. The crowd was there to see the high tech gear and see commandos rapelling from helos. Fine details do not matter to them.

In air shows, pilots do all sorts of maneuvers that would be useless or worse in actual combat, but will still awe the spectators more than a useful, prosaic tactical maneuver.

Its not just the audience present at the scene that's watching them. Military personnel who are interested in the particular region also watch and they judge how well prepared you are by these exhibitions. Anyway you should hope they are quicker than this.
