In their hurry to break news, several TV channels on Monday ran stories about a fighter plane crashing near Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh. Only, no such crash took place.

The channels even beamed images of wreckage, causing some nervous moments in the Air Force.

Even as official spokespersons denied that any fighter jet had crashed, the news spread like wildfire. It later turned out that some channels were showing file footage of a MiG-27 crash without verifying the news with official authorities.

Finally, defence ministry spokesperson Sitanshu Kar set the record straight with this tweet: “There has been no air crash of any IAF fighter jet today. A MiG-27 with the frame number TU 645 had crashed in Uttarlai on 27 Jan 2015.”

Some reports even suggested that a TU 645 chopper had crashed.
The fighter plane that never really crashed

why not 72 LCA tejas???

Because Mig 27 Serve the role of Ground attack aircraft and CAS, and Rafale equipped with Brimstone ATGM , Scalp Cruise Missiles and Exocet Antiship Missiles, is the perfect aircraft for replacing the 78 Mig27 in service across 4 Sqds

Jaguars are undergoing MLUs at present and are unlikely to retire before yr 2025

Tejas can replace Mig21 Bison hence I said about ordering 80 Tejas MK1 to replace 120 Mig21 Bisons

Those IAF planes keep crashing down. the best thing to do is stay doing nothing and wait it vanish.

IAF doesn't want Tejas, it isn't wise to replenish with Tejas. Modi shall sign the Rafale deal or IAF's morale will be broken down.

IAF's fleet is getting old and Obselete, they even have to pay sky-high price to update Mirage2000. tell me how IAF is gonna deal with two fronts war under current circumstances.

.
They are still used for training purposes.
may be we use them as targets :D or for real war like scenario.. OR pilots fly them when real missile is locked on them, without warhead, to give real experience.. is it possible?

HoHo; @blackblood; even you stepped in the muck head-first!
You are commenting on something which did not even happen, sigh..... another day on pdf.

Just commenting on the wreckage. Just saw the report from Indian MOD refuting the claims about the Mig-27 crash.

Looks like the Mig-21
those Mig21 shall be in the aviation Musem right now. Pity on those IAF's pilotes, their family will lost them anytime.

IF IAF doesn't have enough money to buy Rafale, I thin AIIB shall lend them.

. .
IF IAF can handle two fronts war, then pigs will fly in the sky. Now I finally realize the dilemma IAF is facing, really very tough to wiggle out.
