This much crashes happen only because of poor approach, the plane is at low speeds during approach, and hence, more reaction time and less probability of a fatal crash, although other skids and other mishaps might occur.
Could also be that the old aircrafts dont have as safe cockpit as of now.
The problem with mig 21 is - this is a plane which has the highest take off speed and also the highest landing speed. Landing speed is more than 300 miles/HR if i remember correctly. Without appropriate middle stage training with trainers such as Hawks, etc ..rookies just are not equipped enough to handle these landings..
Mig is a great aircraft, but it takes lot of training and mastery to handle these a/c's . The approach of coming low on speeds during landing will not work with a/c like Mig. And finally this is a 4 decade old machine , nothing beats this as a reason for crashes ...

blaming pilots is a good ploy to hide the bad maintinance.
Groan....IAF is flying machines which are easily more than 3-4 decades old, isnt that a testament enough for maintenance ? Have you tried to drive a 30 year old car ? I have , and it sure isnt easy.
