IAF chief embarks on four-day visit to Bangladesh

The visit of the CAS to Bangladesh comes at a time when both Bangladesh and Indian armed forces are celebrating 50 years of the 1971 victory

New Delhi: Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria embarked on a four-day trip to Bangladesh on Monday during which he will meet senior officials of the neighbouring country's air force and also visit its key operational bases, the IAF said.

Bhadauria's Bangladesh counterpart Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat was in India earlier this month and represented his country at the Chiefs' of Air Staff Conclave 21 at Air Force Station Yelahanka, Bengaluru, where he led a delegation to Aero India 2021.

"During the course of the four-day visit, the CAS and delegation are scheduled to interact with senior dignitaries and visit key operational bases of BAF.

"They will discuss the progress made in areas of shared interests and explore avenues to further mutual military cooperation," the Air Force said.

The visit of the CAS to Bangladesh comes at a time when both Bangladesh and Indian armed forces are celebrating 50 years of the 1971 victory.

The visit will also enhance the existing professional ties and bonds of friendship between the two Air Forces, the IAF added.

This 500 million dollar offer has been on the line for a few years. BD military probably did not buy a single pair of nut & bolt from India.

I guess they were evaluating different items and ended up deciding on buying some big ticket item which they desperately need. But probably that item wasn't mature enough or was not in serial production, so they waited till now.

Buying anything indian is not only a waste of money and reputation, it’s nail in the coffin for whatever sovereignty left. At that point we might as well join india

Not really they wanted to win OPV contract, then for corvettes and frigates with 500 mil and they’ve been bugging us for years... first the mig 35/ sukhoi then the navy...
It’s non sensical to keep defence budget closed to 1.1% of GDP... rise to 2 percent would allocate 7-8 billion... plenty for all the three armed forces

I don't know if BD have an requirements for helis. We have nearly 300 in service with more 150 in order for various services. Even light heli is ready.

Tejas is not gonna happen with Israeli radar on it. Other than that , I can see some artillery or SAMS where we are good at. IAF chief don't sell products anyway, but through discussions try to understand their requirements and pass it on. The salesmens come later.

Only Indian items India can sell in Bangladesh is low tech items it also sells in dumber markets like the gulf countries.

Like buses and trucks for carrying labor class folks to/from work, airports, labor camps, construction sites etc.

Not looking down on labor class folks, they deserve and demand nice basic transports too - but these must be cheap.

Hence Indian low-tech products like basic buses/trucks are perfect to meet these needs. Until of course, China starts selling anything. India has been lucky because Chinese products are being sold in their own markets mostly.

Please don't bring up high tech items like helis or jets, India has a long way to go to sell these to any foreign country, the track record of in-service maintenance and reliability is not good at all.

Lol last week you asked me to show any engine developed by Indian companies more than 1000cc. Well I appreciate your improved commenting. Or else I have seen how you post on Defence Hub anyway. This makes you look like an insincere poster on that.

Second, even in military, not all stuffs required need to be fancy or high tech. If you had followed enough defence news on this forum, (yup it's a defence forum) many Indian companies started to produce for armed forces after their products won contracts in NATO countries. Due to what we call "import lobby" only products which are better than imported ones are grudgingly approved for manufacturing and induction into armed forces.
I still say unlike other Indian posters, Tejas won't happen. Cos that product is yet to be matured. Provided we can still sell Hawk LIFT, yes HAL has the right to license manufacture it, sell trucks, MRBL, Helis, artillery etc. BD defence budget however has the same problem we Indians complain off, being less. Even with 2 front war threatening India, our budget increased by only 18% in INR terms (our last 5 years in single digits). It's not like BD doesn't want to spend the 500m dollars credit. It has to find the budget to start paying the money like 3-5 years down the line and BD govt may have alternative priority for that money which they pay back through tax payers budget.
