IAF chief Dhanoa flies single-seater MiG-21

ITS NOT mine words its your media reporting it since late 1990s .

Why are MiGs flying coffins for IAF pilots?
In the IAF, pilots literally dread flying the MiG machines. Because, as many as 482 MiG-21s had been involved in accidents and as many as 171 pilots, 39 civilians and eight persons from other services lost their lives in these accidents in the last 40 years.

In this way, the Indian Air Force has lost more than half of its total fleet of 872 MiG aircraft.

Mig-21 crash: No replacement for the ‘Flying coffin’ in near future

Historically, Mig-21 fighters have had a poor track record when it comes to flight safety. Due to its poor safety record, the Russian-origin fighter aircraft has been given the tag, “Flying Coffin” in popular discourse. As per official records, more than 170 IAF pilots have been killed in MIG-21 accidents since 1970.

Media you really think its genuinely relevant

Have you even met any air crew of iaf no
Most of them still rely on MiG-21 in big way

And let me give you news MiG-21 isn't going before 2025 service

And services of iaf increased since 2010 and crahes od MiG-21 os down by 70% in recent years

With 9 operational squadrons how is it considered a stunt !!
Thats only a perception. with close to 100+ fighters still in inventory, IAF has done best to keep them flying and treat them in same way as they do for other assets.
MiG 21 is still a capable fighter and while IAF makes no bones about the fact that it needs to replace them, Pilots treat Bisons with respect and take pride in flying them. ACM is no different.

Flying a 40-50 year old aircraft might be an act of personal courage but it's not an act of leadership.

Perhaps Dhanoa wants to send a signal that: If I am courageous enough to fly this rustbucket, others should be equally courageous.

This obfuscates the issue as to why somebody should have to be courageous and have to fly this very ancient machine which, quite obviously would be prone to mechanical failures. Taking on danger wilfully when there is an option is not bravery - it's foolishness.

50 years is not a joke - I saw a documentary about Syrian Mig 21s that were 35 yer old and the close ups of the fuselage and cockpit did not inspire any confidence. The interviewed pilots candidly confessed to the inherent dangers.

sir show me a single link from any media that mirage are flying coffin we will retire them next week .

China has over 750 Mig 21s aka J 7 , do they pose risks to Pilots ?

Does any SOLDER have a Choice ?
Seriously ?

Well, unlike u, j7 and j8 are on the way to junk yard and replaced by j10 j20 etc, not actively promoted by air chief

Same is the fate of the "REMAINING" Mig 21s in IAF.
"Actively Promoted" ? You perhaps never know how reluctant USN were to accept F18s over Tomcats !
