News channels reporting that an IAF AN32 is missing with crew of 29 on board en route to Port Blair. Joint Search operation launched with Navy. Further reports awaited. The plane took off from Tambram at 7.30 this morning and made a last contact at 7.46 am.

Indian Air Force's AN-32 aircraft enroute Chennai from Port Blair has gone missing with 29 people on board.

The aircraft, which took off at 9am from Port Blair, was on a routine weekly flight for Air Force personnel.

The Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard have launched a massive search operation to locate the missing aircraft.

The Russian made AN-32 is considered to be one of the most reliable machines that the IAF has. The aircraft has the ability to take off and land from small airstrips.

A transport plane of the Indian Air Force with 29 people on board went missing while flying from Chennai to Port Blair on Friday.

The AN-32 aircraft took off at 8.30am from Tambaram in Chennai and last contact with it was made 16 minutes later. The aircraft can fly for up to four hours without refuelling.

The Coast Guard and IAF have launched operations to find the aircraft but there was no official statement about its disappearance yet.
