IAEA mission to Iran ends in failure

By Joby Warrick, Tuesday, February 21, 10:46 PM

U.N. nuclear officials conceded failure on Tuesday after an extraordinary, two-day visit to Iran yielded no progress in clearing up allegations about the country’s pursuit of nuclear weapons technology.

A spokesman for the International Atomic Energy Agency said a delegation from the U.N. nuclear watchdog was returning home after being blocked by Iran from access to key records and sites. The team arrived in Tehran on Sunday at the government’s invitation to resolve long-standing disputes over whether Iranian scientists had secretly experimented with nuclear warhead designs nearly a decade ago.

But the IAEA officials were barred from visiting a key testing facility known as Parchin, where some of the research was alleged to have occurred, the spokesman said. Moreover, the U.N. officials were unable to reach an agreement with Iran on a basic work plan for addressing the questions about past nuclear experiments.

“Intensive efforts were made to reach agreement on a document facilitating the clarification of unresolved issues in connection with Iran’s nuclear program, particularly those relating to possible military dimensions,” the IAEA said in a statement posted late Tuesday on its Web site. “Unfortunately, agreement was not reached on this document.”

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano called the visit’s outcome “disappointing.”

“We engaged in a constructive spirit, but no agreement was reached,” he said.

The trip, the second by the IAEA team in three weeks, had sparked hopes for a breakthrough in a controversy that has soured the U.N. agency’s relations with Iran and deepened Western suspicions about Iran’s nuclear intentions. The IAEA has repeatedly confronted Iran over scientific papers and other documents — most provided by Western intelligence agencies — that appear to show Iranian scientists working through problems in the design and testing of nuclear warheads.

Iran dismisses the documents as forgeries and maintains that its nuclear projects are intended only for generating electricity.

Iran has frustrated Western governments recently with conflicting messages, mixing conciliatory messages with threats and defiance. Last week, Iranian officials offered to revive long-dormant negotiations with world powers over its nuclear program, and hours later they threatened to cut oil sales to European countries in retaliation for Western sanctions.

Thank god for that! I have absolutely no trust whatsoever in the integrity of these inspectors or the IAEA organization in general. These are only tools in the hands of more poweful nations without even a veneer of neutrality or fair play. The only reason why Iran hasn't yet publicly shat on that treaty is because it's still too costly to do that. Otherwise, Iran treats that piece of paper the same way as the have countries: something to wipe your behind with...

Whenever Israel or US allows international organizations to inspect every military site they want in their country, then Iran will do that too.IAEA doesn't have any right to ask inspecting a non-nuclear facility. No country in the world would accept this.

Good thing they got no acces The inspectors wanted to visit Parchin military facility, this is not allowed since it is a non nuclear military base. The IAEA just want to abuse its inspection right to spy on iranian conventional military capabilities and then pass it to the US,Israel. We know their tricks

.
ok now what i will say common sense lets send IAEA team to all nuclear nation together including Israel and lets see in how many nuclear plant can they go inside

come on it is a military site it is a secret site why would outsiders be allowed

BS ! This is the same IAEI which reported that Iraq was refusing inspection while the Iraqis even showed the UN inspectors their conventional military capabilities like their missiles (Al Hussain).

The inspectors are in reality CIA agents wanting to spy on military capabilities of their opponents

An epic brain fart by washington post. When will this israhell- Yanki mental masturbation stop. Seriously what are the brains of
these american's made off.

.
IAEA didnot even protest when IRAQ was getting bombed that they don't have WMD they did not tell the truth so if a IAEA team is in IRAN then IRan should be cautious not to show everything , they will be the spy but who looks innocent

same was done to north korea and the documents and the later the videos were leaked and NK got pissed and dont trust them any more

Soltaniyeh Stresses Positive Results of Iran, IAEA Talks

"The Islamic Republic is bound to international rules and regulations and cooperated with the IAEA inspectors in two rounds of meeting; recent meetings between Iranian officials and IAEA inspectors had good results but reaching a final agreement needs more negotiations and time; Iran answered all legal and technical questions regarding its nuclear activities," Soltaniyeh said on Wednesday.

---------------------

So Iran answered all questions regarding its nuclear activities, and yet West spined talks as a failure, because Iran denied access to conventional military site, which has nothing to do with nuclear activity?

No wonder he also said:

"He also underlined that Iran is committed to continue talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), but hostile countries should not manipulate these positive relations, Iran's Envoy to the IAEA."

Thats exactly what happened. West media and US puppet Amano havent mentioned anything about all answered questions by Iran about nuclear activity, and yet try to show Iran in a bad light because of military site, which doesnt concern IAEA in any way.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released on February 24, 2012 its latest report on the implementation of NPT safeguards in Iran and the status of Iran’s compliance with Security Council resolutions. The analysis highlights the IAEA’s key findings, including:

(1) Iran achieves a near three-fold increase in production of 19.75 percent LEU at Natanz and Fordow.
(2) Iran installs approximately 8,000 additional IR-1 centrifuge casings at Natanz and Fordow, but does not install rotor assemblies.
(3) Iran increases number of centrifuges enriching at Natanz plant by nearly 50%.
(4) the testing of advanced centrifuge production-scale cascades at the Natanz pilot testing is going far more slowly than expected
(5) IR-1 centrifuge performance remains below par.
