What's new

I worked on the US drone program. The public should know what really goes on

drones killed most wanted terrorists who butchered Pakistanis in thousands .. i will have this drone hovering over the heads of those who wanted to harm us. As for the collateral damage yes innocent deaths are bad and shouldn't happen .. we all condemn it .. but who will say to the terror rats to stop using civilians and human sheilds also why dont the victims file a law suite in international court of justice

At least, you are being honest in acknowledging the civilian casualties in drone attacks, a lot of our people sadly defend drones even more than Americans and claim there isn't any civilian casualties in drone strikes at all and hence drones are blessing of God..

It will not effect the idiots here

drones are perfect recruiting agency for ttp in the tribal area

kill one innocent by drone and get 3 terrorist related to that "collateral damage" for free

arms and ammunition supplied to them by our neighbors separately(but free)

No sir, I didn't pick anything out of context. You used Hafiz Quran and blowing up in same sentence and then used Sharia in same manner. Now pray explain to me what will it mean in or out of context?

Supporters of Talibarbarians and Qaida used that logic.

And it hurts the mainstream Pakistanis.

Hope you understand it now.

yar jo terrorist ka victim hai they praise drone strikes .. they will and we cannot blame them , they seek revenge by killing these terrorist amrika is becoming a hero and Pakistanis are loosing trust in the capacity of their armed forces .. 70 K Pakistanis has affected over 70K families this is a huge number if you think about it.
And off course any civilians innocents killed in such strikes are condemn able .. victims should pool in and file a case at International courts ... seeking revenge and compensation

Obviously drone strikes are not effective.

Mullah Mahsood died as a result of eating rotten chana daal. we should blame his non-stop f@rts that ultimately killed him.

Not only the stink killed him but also the men women children sleeping in the same room.

We should truly moarn the loss of men women children sleeping in the same room with Mullah Mashood.

Heck while we are at it

Let's pass resolution for Hazrat Usama bin fing laden rehmatunna Alaihe

He too was killed as a result of the same daal related condition.

May tey be all rest in jahannum

ameen

So you pick up stuff out of context?

Is that how you will apply blasphemy law on us?

Huh?
How did C.I.A operators found out that those terrorists were staying there?Intel sharing..alright?
But this procedure of targeting object isn't always accurate.Indeed, like I always persist that it has some 'merits',but my bro...it has greater demerits as well.I am so embrassed to read statement of one of our ministers stating 'drone strike as a blessing',I may accept that it has some merits, but I reject that it is blessing, historian

Please next time use Islami Extremists instead of Islamists and don't generalize the terms like Hafiz Quran. Not every Islamist or Hafiz Quran is a terrorist, so please be careful about what you choose because there are a lot of members from other countries looking to troll using such opportunities. Islam is a peaceful religion, lets not forget it.

Peace

Drones will be flying within USA too, not to mention elsewhere:

Central NY selected for test site for drone aircraft - Local News - Rochester, NY | NBC News

The FAA announced that Central New York has been picked as one of six sites in the country to test drones with a goal of integrating them into the national air space.

It's not immediately clear if this will lead to more drone flights over central New York but the effort will be directed out of the Griffiss International Airport in Rome, New York.

News10NBC is told this could lead to 470 jobs and a $180-million economic impact, according to officials with NUAIR -- an alliance of more than 40 public and private organizations that pushed to win this designation.

The other sites are in Alaska, Nevada, North Dakota, Texas and Virginia.

you perhaps will read this thread and provide some views. Thank you.

Why would someone rent his family bedroom to a bank robber?

No need to lump good people good hafiz with bad ones.

my bro

you knew very well that I wasn't talking about them

But you either innocently or mischievously brought them in.

Please do not do that again.

Thank you.

well the other alternative is to send in SSG commandos to kill the likes of Mehsud.

Obviously when ground troops go in,

SSG commands will die too.

So the options are:

--- Shoot Mehsud from the air and avoid the killing of SSG and a lot many neighbors
-- Shoot and kill Mehsud from the ground, and risk 20 times more casualties.

Choice is ours,

choice is theirs.

This is the biggest issue with the drone program which is otherwise effective. Let Pakistan handle the systems.. let its knowledge of the local environment be in the loop..and the drones are still the best weapon to break the TTP.

Okay , so you say let pakistan handle the drones right?

Here is a forthright honest question for you-

Why will pakistan kill the very ones they fund to go after the US in afghanistan? This is not my claim, this is an established fact and complaint from the US side that the ISI protects terrorists who attack afghanistan.

so why would we give Pakistan ten of millions of dollars of equipment to effectively protect the terrorists we want to kill? unless you think our tax payer dollars should go kill the TTP ONLY i.e. you kill the ones that attack you, rest that kill us are a-okay

@pak-marine

I didn't want an answer from you, as i already know the sickhead point of view of the Pakistani 'liberals'. I was just knocking to see if there is any 'zameer left'. As usual its empty as a 'tabla'.

I hope (honestly) that some of your family members, kids and women become, what you call the 'collateral damage'. I'm sure that will 'lift the lid'.

Now before you get all 'firey' and i'd have to call the fire brigade, do think for a minute of those who already have lost their loved ones.

They are humans and Pakistanis too...btw...o'h well!

I worked on the US drone program. The public should know what really goes on

Few of the politicians who so brazenly proclaim the benefits of drones have a real clue how it actually works (and doesn't)

Hermes-450-drone-008.jpg

Whenever I read comments by politicians defending the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Predator and Reaper program – aka drones – I wish I could ask them a few questions. I'd start with: "How many women and children have you seen incinerated by a Hellfire missile?" And: "How many men have you seen crawl across a field, trying to make it to the nearest compound for help while bleeding out from severed legs?" Or even more pointedly: "How many soldiers have you seen die on the side of a road in Afghanistan because our ever-so-accurate UAVs [unmanned aerial vehicles] were unable to detect an IED [improvised explosive device] that awaited their convoy?"

Few of these politicians who so brazenly proclaim the benefits of drones have a real clue of what actually goes on. I, on the other hand, have seen these awful sights first hand.

I knew the names of some of the young soldiers I saw bleed to death on the side of a road. I watched dozens of military-aged males die in Afghanistan, in empty fields, along riversides, and some right outside the compound where their family was waiting for them to return home from the mosque.

The US and British militaries insist claim that this is an expert program, but it's curious that they feel the need to deliver faulty information, few or no statistics about civilian deaths and twisted technology reports on the capabilities of our UAVs. These specific incidents are not isolated, and the civilian casualty rate has not changed, despite what our defense representatives might like to tell us.

What the public needs to understand is that the video provided by a drone is not usually clear enough to detect someone carrying a weapon, even on a crystal-clear day with limited cloud and perfect light. This makes it incredibly difficult for the best analysts to identify if someone has weapons for sure. One example comes to mind: "The feed is so pixelated, what if it's a shovel, and not a weapon?" I felt this confusion constantly, as did my fellow UAV analysts. We always wonder if we killed the right people, if we endangered the wrong people, if we destroyed an innocent civilian's life all because of a bad image or angle.

It's also important for the public to grasp that there are human beings operating and analysing intelligence these UAVs. I know because I was one of them, and nothing can prepare you for an almost daily routine of flying combat aerial surveillance missions over a war zone. UAV proponents claim that troops who do this kind of work are not affected by observing this combat because they are never directly in danger physically.

But here's the thing: I may not have been on the ground in Afghanistan, but I watched parts of the conflict in great detail on a screen for days on end. I know the feeling you experience when you see someone die. Horrifying barely covers it. And when you are exposed to it over and over again it becomes like a small video, embedded in your head, forever on repeat, causing psychological pain and suffering that many people will hopefully never experience. UAV troops are victim to not only the haunting memories of this work that they carry with them, but also the guilt of always being a little unsure of how accurate their confirmations of weapons or identification of hostile individuals were.

Of course, we are trained to not experience these feelings, and we fight it, and become bitter. Some troops seek help in mental health clinics provided by the military, but we are limited on who we can talk to and where, because of the secrecy of our missions. I find it interesting that the suicide statistics in this career field aren't reported, nor are the data on how many troops working in UAV positions are heavily medicated for depression, sleep disorders and anxiety.

Recently, the Guardian ran a commentary by Britain's secretary of state for defence, Philip Hammond. I wish I could talk to him about the two friends and colleagues I lost, within a year of leaving the military, to suicide. I am sure he has not been notified of that little bit of the secret UAV program, or he would surely take a closer look at the full scope of the program before defending it again.

The UAVs in the Middle East are used as a weapon, not as protection, and as long as our public remains ignorant to this, this serious threat to the sanctity of human life – at home and abroad – will continue.

this exactly my question too. You had pakistan that had a huge offensive in the SWAT valley in the past, where it was said near a million people were displaced. arti shelling ( not a precision weapon) was used and aerial bombing-- I never heard a word of protest about about hundreds of civilians killed in that scenario from folks here. arti shelling and aerial bombing with aircrafts kill way more civilians indiscriminately, but because it was in a TTP area ONLY those civilians did not matter

@Oscar

Yanks are worried, we might seed tech to the Chinese.

@FaujHistorian

Military ops alone can't be successful. Are you really that dumb to understand why the most powerful military machine in the history of the world lost 3 wars one after the other in a COIN environment?

Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan.

we lost ? what do you define as victory ? we changed the regime in Iraq and afghanistan , we killed 200x ( exaggeration a bit) of our enemies, we remained in those countries establishing new govts. for years... and we lost?

here you pakistanis claim you won your wars against india, with much lower " victories" and did not manage to capture any Indian lands. why do you have different standards for us? you write stories about how you took down one or two Indian aircrafts and heralded it as some great victory and call our sustained victories as a loss? hmmm

so per your logic, if you attack indian, take over it for 10 years , change govt, but have pockets of insurgency - that would be a lost war for pakistan?

you have a unfair notion of winning when it comes to others...brother
