In a corner of the boarding card, check the number of the letter "S" printed. If four, like this: SSSS, always be prepared for secondary questioning, and act accordingly. In a statement to CNN, Alaska Airlines says it takes discrimination complaints very seriously but "since this case remains pending litigation, we're unable to share any further comment or details at this time."
(CNN)Two Muslim men have filed a federal discrimination suit against Alaska Airlines for being removed from a plane prior to takeoff after a passenger alerted the crew that the men were texting and speaking in Arabic.
According to a complaint filed last week in federal district court, the plaintiffs, Abobakkr Dirar and Mohamed Elamin, allege they boarded a flight from Seattle to San Francisco on February 17, 2020, and after being seated in their first-class seats, they started speaking and texting in Arabic. Another passenger, who did not speak Arabic the complaint says, saw some of Dirar's text messages and told the crew who removed Dirar and Elamin from the flight due to what they claimed to be a "ticket issue."
Once Dirar and Elamin were off the flight, the men spoke with an Alaska Airlines manager who translated their text messages and the messages were deemed not to be a threat, but the men were subsequently surrounded by law enforcement, according to the complaint.
Dirar and Elamin, the complaint says, felt humiliated for being taken off the plane and being surrounded by law enforcement while allowing other passengers to observe "humiliating Plaintiffs before their fellow passengers by unnecessarily deplaning said passengers and allowing them to observe Plaintiffs surrounded by uniformed law enforcement personnel."


According to the complaint, they are seeking damages against the airline.
The pair was booked on subsequent flights separately to San Francisco, but Elamin had to sit in a downgraded seat and both passengers arrived at their destinations hours later than originally intended.
Dirar and Elamin's attorney, Luis Segura, told CNN in a statement that Alaska Airlines could have handled the situation better after finding that the complaining passenger's claims were baseless.
The airline "...could have acted responsibly by calming tensions, apologizing to our clients for their mistreatment, and allowing our clients to remain in their rightful seats, he said. "Instead, Alaska Airlines chose to pile onto the bigotry by using these two Black, Muslim American passengers as props in an admittedly unjustified, unnecessary, and self-serving display of security theater. By bringing this lawsuit, our clients not only seek justice for themselves, but also for an entire community tired of being scapegoated to justify discrimination in air travel."
When asked why it took more than two years to file a lawsuit, Segura told CNN that in December of 2020, Alaska Airline's counsel stated that they would be conducting an internal investigation into the matter but never reached back out to his clients.
In a statement to CNN, Alaska Airlines says it takes discrimination complaints very seriously.
"Our greatest responsibility is to ensure that our flight operations are safe every day, and that includes complying with federal regulations on investigating any passenger safety reports. Since this case remains pending litigation, we're unable to share any further comment or details at this time."

On another note , American airlines seem to have changed their practice for last minute preflight additional secondary screening at Heathrow. When I was at Heathrow in July they called by tannoy the passengers chosen for "random" secondary screening well before the flight at the gate. What I find funny is that some poor white folks get dragged into secondary screening so as to not make it obvious that the real targets are the black and brown passengers. Anyway Good that the airline and airport have acted upon a complaint and made a positive change. Chip away at improving the system and standup where you need to for your rights and dignity but be civil about it.

TSA staff barely pass high school. Those motherfuckers are dumb so if you challenge them in any way they will hold you longer because that’s the only power they have. They’re just like American cops but often times worse.

I once challenged a fat mexican tsa guy to a fight on his break while I was being screened after arrival at Houston airport. This nigga thought he was some tough guy so I played on his bravado. This dumb **** cleared me quickly and told to me to wait by some part of the parking lot in section J or some shit.

I obviously got cleared and got picked up and dipped out, right outside the airport. This dumb **** thought I would really be waiting for him at the parking lot during his lunch break.

That’s how fucking stupid these retards are.

I had a similar experience at Heathrow, almost got arrested when I gave them a piece of my mind. I couldn't understand why when 1 in 3 US citizen adults have criminal records as to why I was stopped for a "random" secondary screening just before boarding the plane and most Americans and British white folks were allowed to board unhindered. I hope my relatives at Karachi airport and Islamabad airport will give these white folks a tough time too. . I was like what the fu(k too. First time it has happened to me. I do a lot of flying and have never been stopped before.

Your relative will bow down to the white man. I experienced this at Islamabad and at the height of the war in Afghanistan saw white military haircut men walk through security without question. When I vomplained a naval officer took me aside and told me they had orders not to talk to them.

A black EU citizen with settled status was temporarily denied entry to the UK when she attempted to board a Eurostar train in Paris on Saturday.

Dahaba Ali Hussen, a Dutch citizen of Somali origin who has lived in London for 19 years, was on a solo holiday in France when she arrived at the Gare du Nord railway station two hours before her train was set to depart to London St Pancras.

Unable to pass the barriers for the EU queue, Hussen assumed there was a technology issue. She claims a UK Border Force officer she then approached confiscated her passport after he notified her that she would be subject to “further checks” because she had been denied settled status in the past.

Hussen claims she was handed a form that had already been filled out, with a box ticked stating she was denied reentry to the UK, and another box ticked saying she was being detained under the 1971 Immigration Act.

“I was mortified,” Hussen said. “I was stood in the middle of the train station, while everyone was checking in, crying. It felt like a horror movie.”

Hussen, 29, a journalist who has written extensively on the EU settlement scheme, has previously campaigned with organisations including the3million, which gives a voice to EU citizens in the UK.

In the past, she has been more concerned about the status of her mother, a former refugee who fled to the Netherlands during the Somali civil war in the early 1990s.

But Hussen herself has had numerous issues with her UK settled status. She was previously refused settled status to live in Britain on three separate occasions, including last year.

On Saturday, uncertain what was going to happen, she frantically made calls to British MPs and former colleagues with whom she had campaigned.

“I’m more well-versed on this than your ordinary citizen, and even I didn’t know what was happening,” she said.

Once a video Hussen posted on her Twitter account from Paris began to draw attention, Hussen claims the Border Force officer “completely changed his tune”, returned her passport and escorted her on to the platform to catch her train.

“I know the only thing [the Home Office] responds to is media pressure,” she said. “I’d really like to get to the point where someone explains to me why, despite having my full EU settled status, I had my passport taken away from me.”

Hussen also described overhearing a white woman ahead of her requesting permission from a UK Border Force officer to pass using a scan of her passport, because she had left the original in Bordeaux.
“I literally remember looking at her thinking, ‘Good luck. Are you trying to get into a club?” Hussen said, adding that the officer, however, allowed the woman to pass.
“This is not an isolated incident,” Hussen said of her ordeal. “They do it to people of colour the most.”
Responding to Hussen’s tweet, the In Limbo Project, which collects testimonies on the impact of Brexit from EU citizens in the UK and British citizens in the EU, said: “This is not an isolated incident. Thankfully @Dahabaalihussen has now been able to travel back home to the UK but this ordeal would not have happened if the British government had issued us all with a physical proof of our immigration status.”
A Home Office spokesperson said: “As part of routine security checks, Ms Hussen was delayed for a short time, but at no point was she told she couldn’t travel to the UK, nor did she miss her train.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this caused Ms Hussen, but we will always prioritise the country’s security.”

I look like a Pakistani. Sem2sem. Especially when I grow a full beard. I have lost count of the number of times I was pulled out of the line after 9/11 and in Kashmir by the Army.
