A former CIA official has said Pakistan is probably the most dangerous country for the world as it is ripe with threats of terrorism, a failing economy and the fastest growing nuclear arsenal.

“While Pakistan is not the most dangerous country in the world, it is probably the most dangerous country for the world, and as such, a serious case for close and continued US engagement with Pakistan can be made,” Kevin Hulbert, a former top intelligence officer who retired in June 2014 , wrote in an op-ed in The Cipher Brief.

“As a country ripe with the triple threat of terrorism, a failing economy, and the fastest growing nuclear arsenal, Pakistan has the potential to create more nightmare scenarios for US policymakers than any other country,” Hulbert said.

Hulbert previously served multiple overseas tours as CIA chief of station and deputy chief of station.

The CIA official went on to say, “Like it or not, Pakistan is similar to a bank or company considered too big to let fail because of the ripple effect it might cause across the entire economy.”

Claiming that the spectre of the sixth largest country in the world being a failed state is a hypothetical catastrophe that would unleash a world of unintended consequences, the ex-CIA official said, “Rather than risk it, and as much as we might like to move on, we really should increase the level of engagement with Pakistan, not decrease it.”

Hulbert said many of the trend lines in Pakistan now seem to be “moving in the wrong direction.”

“For years, Pakistan felt justified in its use of t militias to attack India in a war of attrition,” he continued.

However, Hulbert said, “The good news on Pakistan is that al Qaeda’s core in Pakistan’s troubled Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) is largely destroyed. The US government has decimated al Qaeda and its extremist allies in the Fata, and it is telling that none of Ayman al-Zawahiri’s named successors are located in Pakistan. It is also telling that in order to stay alive, Zawahiri has isolated himself to the point of being irrelevant. He cannot communicate with his followers, he provides no command and control, and it takes him weeks, sometimes months, to respond in any meaningful way to current events.”

Today, Pakistan finds itself in a very complicated security situation where there is little differentiation among radical groups, he noted.

“Terrorist groups, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, are suddenly allied with al-Qaeda, while Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, the Pakistan Taliban, the Afghan Taliban, and other assorted miscreants and non-state actors are intent on bringing down the elected government of Pakistan,” he added.

They've said the Pakistani army is a rouge army too. Yet they don't look at themselves.

that is an amazing rise.. from rags to riches.
I can only appreciate Indian democracy for that.
he is an Indian version of Trump.. bitter and hostile towards Muslims and specially Pakistan but he is loved (despite or because of that)

on the non serious note.. is he angry with the world specially Pakistan for all the abuse he had to suffer?

To be honest both personalities mentioned by you have not yet ruled us. Therefore one can not guess their capabilities until they rule us. They still have benefit of doubt.

On the other hand Malala is prone to be influenced by foreign if she rules us. This has become evident ever since the book was published in her name.

Where they established peace without terrorism by themselves? Russia cutter is other. russia is now just a broken land. in the clash of ideologies capitalism vs communism russia failed to established, their own capacity.

US is a ‘selfish friend’: Pakistan

Sartaj Aziz says Washington always curried favour with Pakistan when self-interest pressed it; growing US-India proximity cause of concern for Pakistan; why does US expect us to bring peace in Afghanistan if it could not do it in 15 years?

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Thursday said the US was a “selfish friend” that always curried favour with Pakistan when self-interest pressed it and left it in the lurch after having its interests served.

Addressing a press conference at the Foreign Office here, he said the growing US-India proximity was a cause of worry for Pakistan. He said if the US could not bring peace in war-torn Afghanistan, why was it expecting Pakistan to do this difficult job within the shortest-possible time.

He termed the May 21 drone strike unfortunate, saying that the incident had damaged Pakistan’s relationship with the US.“The drone strike killing the Afghan Taliban leader Mulla Mansour has not only violated our sovereignty but also damaged the level of trust with the United States,” the adviser said.

He said the drone attack had undermined the Afghan peace process adding that the incident would have far-reaching implications. He said Pakistan was unsure of the US objective behind the strike; however, he said apparently it had more negatives [aspects] than positives.

About the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US and his efforts for India’s inclusion in the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), Sartaj said the US tilt towards India would disturb the strategic balance in the region.

“We have been constantly reminding the United States to be mindful of maintaining a security balance for peace in the region,” he added. He dismissed the impression that Pakistan had initiated belated foreign policy efforts to mobilise support for its membership of NSG.

Instead, he said, Pakistan had been pursuing active diplomacy on the point that no non-NPT (Nuclear Proliferation Treaty) country should be given an exception to apply for the NSG membership.

Talking about the arrest of Indian RAW agent Kulbhushana mutual concern of terrorism with India. He said following the arrest of Kulbhushan Pakistan had informed the international community about the Indian-sponsored terrorism on its soil.

In the coming weeks, he said, Pakistan would share more information with the United Nations and the P5 countries. “They talk about our non-state actors, but we talk about their state actors active in subversive activities in Balochistan, tribal areas and Karachi,” he said.

He welcomed India’s statement about non-involvement of Pakistan in the Pathankot airbase attack. To a question about non-appointment of a permanent foreign minister, the adviser said it was not unprecedented in the history of Pakistan and gave examples of the governments of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Jawahar Lal Nehru and the first term of Nawaz Sharif when no foreign minister had been appointed.

He said being adviser on foreign affairs did not matter much with the title and he was playing a much more responsible role at present without feeling handicapped. In response to a question about normalisation of Pakistan’s relations with India, he said the former had a six-decade history of making Pakistan isolated in the international community. However, he said Pakistan had been successful in protecting its interests. “Pakistan believes that dialogue is the only option for resolution of issues with India,” he said.

Then why thousends of people killed by the name of extremism? U are responsible? or US? USSR broken down in the earlier 1980. Russia and Pk relationship has no meaning in the charms of US relationship. If u kill innocent people of Afghanistan then are u criminal ? PK used afgan as a proxy against India. I know the definition of extremism. I said before before telling terrorist to the muslims, find the rat root.

USA technically helping Pakistan for their own benefits. Pakistan is technically improved nation. dn't forget that u have nuk power. dn't say , nuk made by USA>

Well she has the right to speak her mind...the question is when WE will wake-up and exercise our right of choosing the BEST candidate for PM...keeping the past blunders in mind.

.
If pakistanis are smart, they will chose her to represent them on international fora.

She can be a good advertisement for Pakistan.
Indeed, if for no other reason than the optics Malala would be a great ambassador for Pakistan and would greatly improve its image globally. The fact that she is actually forced to live outside of Pakistan says it all.

Send her to us, we will take care of her. I am ashamed that My country India has no assylum policy. We should always give asylum to such good people..
India has 100s of millions of its own that need to be uplifted before any foreigner.

Totally like Ghandi dynasty they are born with a silver spoon no matter how incompetent they are they will be imposed on this country they have the resources to work in this system in which you require a significant investment and connection to win an election
All such dynasties are parasites and should be treated as such.
