The Soviets and the Americans knew exactly how many and where the Chinese nukes were hidden. The Soviets had them painted right from the start.

As for the Soviets, i'm unaware. But for the Americans i'm not sure.

By going nuclear, do you really think India protected herself from a nuclear strike against US? You are forgetting one thing, the Americans had nukes that numbered in the triple digits. India acquiring nukes would not have made any difference in a full on shooting war against US.

One had to start somewhere, I find no reason for Indira Gandhi asking for an 8000km range ballistic missile then.

If the target was merely China, 2000-3000 Km missile ranges would have been sufficient.

The Cold Start Doctrine was abandoned before even it was implemented on the field. IA top brass realized that a doctrine such as this cannot be successfully executed by the likes of IA which is a third world Army. Cold Start from its inception was designed to mimic Desert Storm.

I think you are in a big disadvantage in a war anyways.You have such big plain land in Punjab and south of it where the IA Armoured corp can send waves and waves of tanks in and it would be very hard for you to stop them.

Battle would be much more fluid in the Thar Desert, this is why the cream of PA's Armoured Divisions are deployed over there . Please show me how will the IA be able to send waves and waves of IA tanks, because looking at the number of modern tanks both sides can field, the numbers are not that off. Also considering that PA is quite well dug in defensive positions, IA will have to take a lot of attrition before it will be engaged by PA tanks. Anyways, your more than welcome to change my view with facts and logic instead of a fanboy wish list.

I wanna say this in the most politest manner possible that had you even an iota worth of knowledge what cold start exactly means then you would know it is already taking shape.I will give you an example..6 years ago every Corp in the IA used to go in excercise once every 3-4 years but it is changed now.You will see every major corp going for excercise every year.Excercises are taking place every now and then...and they are trying to perfect what cold start is.

In the age of UAVs,SAT imagery and advanced attack copters connected by data links to uavs and tank formation..you are telling me that PA is well dug out?

A modern mechanized warfare launched simultaneously by 'Integrated Battle Groups', advancing on planned axis of movements to attack and capture preplanned destinations. Use of IBG's along with air assets to overwhelm and destroy the enemy. Basically, the CDS is a new name for the Air-Land Battle Strategy NATO invented in the early 80's and executed it to perfection during Desert Storm. A very ambitious goal i might say for the likes of India, but you have to keep in mind NATO is a first world army with a first world officers core. IA simply does not has the number and quality of officers that are required to execute this doctrine, while the lower cadre of IA unlike NATO's is not capable enough to execute orders due to their constraints (literacy, training, exposure etc).

I know exactly what CDS is, i have studied it quite thoroughly. I have had discussions in detail in the past with other senior Indian members whose knowledge far exceed yours.

IA performing Corps size exercises itself defeats the entire premise of CDS, you are just contradicting yourself. The purpose of CDS is to perform brigade level operations, and not at Corps level. Also the exercises that i have witnessed and read thoroughly about, there is no indication that CDS has been implemented on the field yet. IA is still exercising at Corps Level and is planning attrition warfare simulations and not deep battle of annihilations, that itself indicates that there are no exercises planned for brigade or division levels.

And how exactly are these assets going to take out PA's defences? Please give me a detailed scenario in this regard.

You are talking as if PA itself is not data linked to all her other situational awareness assets. The basic flaw behind your argument is that everything IA will put it into the battlefield will automatically crush whatever PA will throw at them. Thats a very faulty premise, and i know for a fact this premise is not something that a professional Army like IA subscribes to. Pakistan's situational awareness is almost as good as India, infact when it comes to live reccon its even better than that of India's. US supplied DB110 reccon pods are the most advanced in the world and can look deep into India to get a real time live picture. The access India has to SAT imagery is not live time, and PA/PAF are fielding an army of UAV's.

I dont know about Pakistan but in India there is a significant amount of tanks around the borders and launching an assault will not take more than a few hours.(i am talking of Punjab border)

really? can you tell me the battalions that in punjab close to the border in peace time? only hours away from an attack? because clearly in peace time they cannot be deployed there.
