I Need Honest Opinion On Pak/India News Sources

Dawn is my favorite. Probably the best in the business.

Dawn Channels and Express 24/7 are probably the best Pakistani channels.

As far as Indian news is concerned i have no idea, but stay away from Aaj Tak, NDTV, The Hindu, etc

No not really true Hindu is very unbiased and this is one news paper where news is not made up to sell and earn profits and NDTV dosent really propagate anti Pakistani sentiments. these tow sources make sense.

I agree on Aaj tak its crapy journalism.

Some really good investigative magazines for indepth stories in India are

Tehelka
Outlook
and Economic and Political Weekly

But most news briefs will be from:
Pres Trust India PTI
Indo-Asian News Service IANS
Asian News Interntaion ANI

IMHO, apart from The Hindu, Indian Express is a credible source. I believe it to be one of the best investigative newspapers. Tehelka IMHO does it for TRPs while Indian Express is a true journalist endeavor.
The Asian Age is also a good source (a big fan of M.J. Akbar's articles). You can also add to the list Calcutta Telegraph and Hindustan Times.

About Pakistani source, theres PTI and I do like Dawn.

Economic and Political Weekly

Although I do not agree with all articles since it's a journal and a wide range of authors publish, but it's left leaning and the authors and academics resonate much of my opinions. It is no match for the Journal of Asian Studies (I've been reading archives starting 1947 and am around 1971).

From India :

The Hindu
Calcutta Telegraph
Indian Express
Outlook

From Pakistan, I only know of The Dawn.

I'm not sure why some people found The Hindu biased, care to shed some light? It's bit pro-China, it has been noted for it's non-biased and liberal views.

For example see this article on Jinnah, it was published aftermath of his untimely death. Even at the time when partition is still a unhealed wound, the non-biased approach indeed is admirable.

The Hindu : Opinion / Op-Ed : Mohammad Ali Jinnah as ‘The Hindu’ saw him

Edit: Also the comments on the story also are recommended as most Pakistani I came across take the bickering kids at TOI as the de facto Indian standard.

Dawn is probably the best newspaper we have in South Asia at this moment, but they also print factually incorrect data particulalrly when it comes to India related articles (less so in news).

Indian Express has stuck to good journalism principles for decades and they are possibly the best in India. The Hindu has very good name but they are overtly pro China. In India many regional newspapers do a very good job, but are of no use to those who do not read the language.

But as Asim said, you have to use many sources and find out whats journalism and whats not. A really good newspaper can be 'fed' a bad story very easily given how unaccountable and authoritative our govts are.

Tehelka..?? One of the most Anti-Hindu Papers in India spewing venom on everything Hindu.

For matter inside Pakistan and India....Like news related to internal matter of Pakistan or India ...Local News sources are reliable. If something happens in Pakistan Wazristan and TOI is reporting it then we all know its a BS. Same goes for India and Pakistani sources.

hmmm.........i find rupee news pretty reliable

joke.

i think ndtv is more profesional than other english press...
our hindi news is downright dumba$$ people....
nowadays i watch DD news to get some real news....

From experience.

With reference to Indian channels - go for any channel except India TV.

They are more into comedy rather than news.

Was that NDTV or India TV with 10 kadam Pakistan Khatam Super duper Plan?

Indian Express is also an award winning news group I agree.

About Tehelka being anti-Hindu. I don't understand why anyone would say that. It has doen investigative jounalism exposing Ram Sene leader for accepting money to start communal riots and ofcourse the famous Gujarat riots expose. I dont' agree that these criminal elements represent Hindus and people who equate Ram Sene and Babu Bajrangi with the Hindu mainstream are insulting Hindus.

Other than that, they have done other invesitgative journalism around NE like Manipur, Nagaland, Naxals and even muslim corruption cases in Wakf boards as well as exposes on issues like cross border terrorism as well. And ofcourse I would completely resent this being equated with muslims and will not call Tehelka anti-Muslim for this.

Still everyone has their own take, but Tehelka was founded for independant journalism and has won many international awards as well

I believe that was TimesNow, but seriously, TV channels go for TRP. If you want serious news sources you have to go for print.

You might have a few exceptions that go for good TV journalism but they are very few.

Dawn and Express Tribune for Pakistan.

The Hindu and Calcutta Telegraph for India.
