Former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday said that he does hold sympathy for 'mohajir' community but has no interest in the politics of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

"I have sympathy for mohajirs but no interest in MQM. I will try to do something for the betterment of mohajir community," said Musharraf while giving an interview to DawnNews.

Musharraf stressed on the need of a third political force to challenge the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

“I will try to unite different political forces to form a third power to challenge PML-N and PPP,” he maintained.

When asked about his possible return to Pakistan for political struggle, Musharraf said: “I will come back to Pakistan when court cases against me will conclude.”

“Political leadership in Pakistan is prolonging the cases against me and judiciary is under the influence of the current government,” he added.

'Gen Raheel should be given extension'
Musharraf also commented on the matter of appointment of next army chief.

“General Raheel Shareef should be given extension and he [Raheel] should accept it,” he asserted.

“Nawaz Sharif did not have good working relationship with anyone from the military leadership including Gen Abdul Waheed Kakar, Asif Nawaz, Jahangir Karamat and now Raheel Sharif.”

Senate chairman opposes Musharraf’s entry in politics
Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani on Tuesday said that if Musharraf returns to the country or enters politics “that day should be the last day of politicians in Pakistan”.

“The person [Musharraf] who violated the Constitution of Pakistan, who said yes to ‘do more’, the day he returns to the country and enters political struggle, it should be the last day of politicians in Pakistan,” he said.

“It will be shameful for us if the person who destroyed the country enters into politics,” Rabbani maintained.

Know more: Move to unite MQM factions under former dictator raises hackles

A hitherto unknown organisation had put up banners in the city on Monday and suggested that an alliance between retired Gen Pervez Musharraf and the Dr Farooq Sattar-led MQM-Pakistan, with the former having a leading role, would save Pakistan.

The mysterious banners, put up by unidentified men from the so-called Muttahida Qaumi Jirga-Pakistan, came a day after pro-Musharraf graffiti appeared in Karachi, particularly the city’s Central district which is considered an MQM stronghold.

MQM Pakistan has already rejected speculations over the 'plus one' formula proposed by the counsel for Musharraf, where he had hinted the inclusion of Musharraf in MQM as a party leader.

A video statement of Ahmad Raza Kasuri had surfaced suggesting inclusion of Musharraf in MQM as a leader. But MQM issued a statement to clear doubts regarding the speculation and rejected any such development.

. . . . .
MQM is a disease. They have manipulated people who migrated during partition, for far too long. I've lived in Karachi for best part of my life before moving to Islamabad, and I know this much that real Pakistanis call themselves Urdu speaking and those who follow MQM stick to the label of mohajir, because they have exploited this label like nobodies business.

I will more than welcome Musharaf to lead MQM(Pakistan)+PSP together. Altaf Hussein role to be marginalized completely from the picture.

.
Funny thing is that he was the one who strengthened the militant MQM in his tenure the most and turned a blind eye to their criminal activity. Suddenly he is against MQM. I think this guy is an opportunist looking for an opportunity to become relevant in Pakistani politics again.

Musharraf is a great patriot and he feels for everyone in Pakistan, but he himself is a Mohajir so his attachment with Karachi politics is justified.

A patriot who allied himself with PML Q (super corrupt) in the country's largest province and MQM (RAW-backed criminal mafia, in the Army's own assessment) in its largest metropolis.

You lose moral authority when, on the one hand, your overly active NAB is detaining various businessmen, and on the other Ch. Pervaiz Ellahi and Co are totally exempt. Pathetic.

Gen. Musharraf is a patriot & he will not support any sort of terrorism & political terrorist mqm.

Yet he legitimized MQM, a criminal enterprise with the blood of many policemen and innocent civilians on its hands, as a political force in Karachi. And what a great patriot who picked a PM (Shaukat Aziz) who went on to the illustrious role of being an employee of Indian business magnate Lakshmi Mittal after serving as the "Honourable" Prime Minister of the nuclear-armed Islamic Republic of Pakistan. As both COAS and President, he could have removed all hurdles and built Kalabagh Dam, as he had promised. Yet he didn't.

Of course, like any leader, Mush had his pros. He wasn't obsessed with corruption, for example, and he wasn't pussy.

BTW, before you think I'm some kind of PML N fanboy, let me clarify that I am not. NS & Co. are filth, as are all other political parties in this country (with some perhaps being the lesser of the evils).

We need a new system with new people. Being a blind fanboy of any personality / political cult will not get us anywhere.

Even if Captain Jack Sparrow takes over the leadership of MQM/PSP nothign will change till the actual issue is addressed and which is the unjust provincial job quota for rural dwellers in urban areas.

Tell this to those people who still support PPP, MQM, PML-N,PML-Q, etc,. Pakistani politics is a pool of mud, which is controlled from elsewhere and Musharraf did as much as he could while keeping the masses at bay. Also please dont forget that the dynamics of the region changed post 2001 and Pakistan has been fighting many proxies since then. Musharraf made sure that Pakistan doesn't turn into another Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, etc.

The same patriot destroyed Pakistan by signing NRO and arming mqm! He is a fraud and should be in jail!

To fix this problem, Sindh should be split into 7 administrative units with decentralized power to union council level.

But I wonder why did he support MQM, was he so unaware of their activities in Pakistan?
I don't doubt his patriotism but still I can't digest the fact he helped MQM while it was almost dead and he gave them a clean chit and unhindered authority to takeover Karachi...where was his patriotism or..there is a button in his mind that can easily switch off patriotism when self-interests need to ? while it remains switched on for rest of the times...Mr ex president, you have to answer these questions very candidly...

We are each entitled to our own opinion. I think there is no excuse of Mush giving legitimacy and entering into power-sharing with corrupt / militant parties. That's actually treasonous. But yes, he had his strong points too.
