Actually, I need GSR for induction of new sniper weapon in Pak Army, it is a requirement of my course.


This message was given to me by an Army guy. I want to know what the hell is GSR ? And How can I answer this friend ?

I suppose he means an estimate for the price per unit? I don't know. Ask the guy. Shouldn't it be "GSE" that way? Or perhaps he means how many units are needed?

Does Pakistan army operates any lapua magnum rifle? Bcz a lot of countries are adding this cartridge to their arsenal because of its very long range and low recoil as compared to 50 BMG. There was a report about american snipers in iraq and afghaninstan demanding a long range rifle bcz their 308 was limited to 800m range and they were vulnerable to PKM machine gun fire which reaches to 1200m and it was capable to pin them down in case the sniper is detected. So their sinpers are transitioning towards lapua mangnum because of its longer ranger which is more than 1500m and it stays supersonic till 2100m. 50 bmg is an anti material rifle and is too heavy for a sniper team to carry all the time.

GSR = General Staff Requirement
NSR = Naval Staff Requirement

Whenever any new system is to be inducted in services, the GSR/NSR is generated, which provides the complete requirements/specifications, which are to be fulfilled by the desired system
