My respect for Amma increased a bit, you guys know if Major was from UP or Bihar, those sobs Mulayam and Nitish wouldn't have had the guts to say something like that. Its heros like these who deserve the honor of being called son/daughter of the state, not some some alleged suicide bomber and terrorist killed in encounter.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday wrote to the bereaved wife of Major Mukund Varadarajan, who was killed in an encounter with terrorists in Shopian, Kashmir, on Friday, calling the young officer "a brave son" of Tamil Nadu and a "courageous soldier".

In a letter to Indhu Rebecca Verghese, Jayalalithaa said she was aware that it must be an extremely traumatic time for the slain soldier's wife.

"You have lost a dear and devoted husband; your young daughter, her beloved father, and his parents, their adored son," the letter said. "Yet it is a matter of great pride that he [Major Varadarajan] made the supreme sacrifice while protecting his Motherland, in the best traditions of the Indian Army. In Major Mukund Varadharajan's death, the people of Tamil Nadu have lost a brave son; India has lost a courageous soldier."

"On behalf of the government of Tamil Nadu, I convey my most profound condolences and pray to the Almighty to give you, your child and Major Varadharajan's parents, the strength to bear this irreparable loss," the chief minister said.

Jayalalithaa announced that the state would give the bereaved family Rs 10 lakh.

Varadarajan, of Tambaram, joined the 22 Rajput Regiment after training at the Officers Training Academy in the city. The Army had deployed him in counter-insurgency operations with the 44 Rashtriya Rifles in Shopian.

The Army sent the body to Chennai by an Air India flight on Sunday night and will hold a military funeral for the major on Monday tomorrow.

Varadarajan died in a gunfight with three suspected militants during an Army operation in Karewa Malino, Shopian, 55 km from Srinagar, on April 25.

Friends of the Madras Christian College alumnus recalled him as a dedicated young man.

"He was brave even in college," said Mathan Kumar, who studied with Varadarajan. "He was always ready to explore new ideas."

A favourite of MCC professors, Varadarajan always wanted to join the Army, friends said.

His family will keep the body for public homage at 10 am, before they perform the last rites at Besant Nagar crematorium at noon.

I still don't get it why were they fighting gun battle when they could have blown them up . It is really a unnecessary loss. We already have so less officers.

A Kashmiri Separatist, a MSM News Reporter and a tough Para-Commando were captured by terrorists in Kashmir.

The Chief of the terrorists told them he'd grant each of them
one last request before they were beheaded in front of a Camera.

The Kashmiri Separatist said,'Well, before I die I want to drink a last cup of Kahwah (Kashmiri Green-Tea).'

The Chief nodded to an underling who left and returned with the Kahwa. The Kashmiri Separatist drank it all and said, 'Now I can die content.'

Now the Chief turned towards the News-reporter and repeated the same question - "What is your last wish before you die?"

The News-reporter said - "I'm a reporter to the end. I want to take out my Camcorder and describe the scene here and what's about to happen.
Maybe, someday, someone will watch it and know the Truth.

The Chief directed an aide to hand over the Camcorder and the reporter dictated her comments.

She then said, "Now I can die happy.."

The Chief turned to the Commando and asked - "And now, Army Dog, what is your final wish?"

'Punch me hard,' said the Para-Commando.

"What?" - asked the Chief, surprised a bit- " You dare to mock us? "

"No, I'm NOT kidding. I want you to punch me as hard as you can' insisted the Para-Commando.

"With pleasure" - replied the Terrorists' Chief, grinning from face to face.

The Terrorists' Chief then punches the Commando so hard that he falls back a couple of feet on his back.

But as the Commando touches the ground, he rolls over, pulls a 9 mm Silenced pistol hidden in his boots and shoots the Chief dead.

In the resulting confusion, he emptied his Pistol on six terrorists, then with his knife he slashed the throat of one, and with an AK-47, which he took from one of the already dead terrorists, sprayed the rest of the terrorists killing the remainder.

In a flash, all of the Terrorists including their Chief, were dead.

As the soldier was untying the Kashmiri Separatist and the reporter, they asked him - 'Why didn't you just shoot them all in the first place? Why did you ask him to punch him?

'Because' replied the soldier, 'if I had fired the First Shot, you two would have reported that I was the aggressor and the root cause of all the blood shedding in Kashmir !!'

thanks dear.... It has been the tradition of of Indian army that officer laying their life for their junior.....I Salute these officers they could have got civil jobs easily like us but they chose an Army which is fighting a longest proxy war of modern time ....
i salute those mothers n fathers too who continuously lives in fear of losing their kids still they don't stop them joining Army.....
