I didn't make my formal introduction to the Forum when I joined, so I am correcting that omission here.

I came on PDF while privately researching the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War and the state of both Pakistani and Indian armed forces at that time and that is the reason for my joining the Pakistan Defence forum.

I am an Australian, in Sydney, NSW, Eastern Australia, and have a great interest in military history and in the history of the Subcontinent. The Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 I can remember from my childhood and have always meant to know more about the war's origins and course, and to understand it thoroughly. You could say it was on my bucket list. So I am here.

But of course, with the recent terrible tragedy in Peshawar, that has a dominated events over the last 2 days, I've also been closely following that and making my remarks about this shocking event , including expressions of sympathy for the bereaved and condemnation of the murderers.

I'll repeat our collective expression of sympathy to the people of Pakistan here once more:

Our deepest sympathy to the people of Pakistan at this terrible tragedy, and at this very difficult time, from all of us here in Australia.

Let me state, in as silent words as possible, that Australian help to our agencies is immense. I cannot go into the details because of obvious reasons but the level of support that the Government of Australia provides to Pakistani LEAs is extremely appreciated by those of us who are aware of it. The support is silent, kept out of limelight and news, but it is more then Japanese & even the Chinese assistance.

It also makes me proud personally as a dual Pakistani/Australian citizen.

And no, my lord, I am not of South Asian origin: I am, in fact, a fourth-generation Australian of mixed English, Irish, and German descent. Having said that, I have always had a deep interest in the people, culture, and history of South Asia and of the Indian Subcontinent. It is a great cradle of human civilisation and I have always found it fascinating. One of my great regrets in life is that I did not study one or more languages of the Subcontinent and be literate in them and speak them with a degree of fluency. And now, I fear that in middle age I am too old to learn a new language.
