Having lived in New York for the last two years,

wow 2 yrs out of Pakistan and already bad mouthing...Lovely! I wont expect the author to move mountains any day soon!

Has the author somehow managed to close her eyes to all the violence in NY? Somehow living out of Pakistan for 2 yrs made him form a bubble around herself? IMPRESSIVE!

I know families who moved back with children who were born and raised in UK, America, Germany, Australia even NZ!

I know a number of white ladies (born and raised in America, UK, Denmark, Norway and also from Finland ) who are married to Pakistanis and live in Pakistan and are stronger than this boy!

How many women are rapped in USA pls get some knowledge and then show sorry attitude. The article shows point of view of burger families. I have traveled and interacted with people from all provinces of Pak and they have much respect for women. I have spend many years in Lahore apart from few instances only those girls are harassed who wanted to be harassed.

So have I. I am from Karachi, I have lived in Pindi and Lahore and America.

I am not claiming women aren't raped in America. Come on. I am saying harassment is taken very casually in Pakistan and America. What would be considered 'fun' in Pakistan would be considered 'sexual harassment' in America. Every student coming to America is supposed to take workshops on what is considered sexual harassment in the USA and that is where I know the difference from.

This is because flirting can be considered sexual harrasment in Pakistan - here in the US; girls are used to it.

in the US if the girl says no and you persist, that is harassment.

In Pakistan catcalling, stalking everything is just fun. I've lived in a boys hostel, I've seen what is considered 'okay'. Its sickening.

I would love to exclude Karachi. It is where I was born and raised and I am proud of it. But such things happen in Karachi too. Even in the poshest of neighborhoods. I remember from my school days when 'bwayes' would crash our school carnivals in defence and there were always horrible cases of harassment. But I can say this I have seen this less in Karachi than lets say Pindi or Lahore. I suppose it is because people are more tolerant because of being from all over Pakistan.

Of course there are aholes everywhere but a victim can press charges. Harassment is clearly defined. I don't see what my friend in Lahore could have done. One of the group tried arguing with the boys, that didn't dissuade them. Another took a picture of them, that scared them away. I just know way too many girls that have been through horrible experiences.

judging everything through their own religion, they would realise that shamelessness, vulgarity and a bunch of other scary words that we throw around are quite subjective. What is not subjective is what our nation is rife with; hypocrisy, corruption, extreme intolerance, sexual abuse, extreme societal pressures, violence, and the hatred for our women.
