Its not the degree of punishment its how quick it can be given . Another thing 50% of rapists are 16 year olds who uses the juvanile justice act as they can only be in prison for around 1 year and escape . This has been changed by new govt. If trials of rape cases are resolved quickly then rapes will automatically drop .

Being a women i can just say no tough law can make a man stop from raping a women. Does death penalty stop a man from committing murder.
I urge the Indian forum members to reply to me for a simple question. Will you rape a girl if the punishment for rape is reduced???????????????????

And here lies the solution. The upbringing the education. Education holds the key not the punishments. You cannot stop men or women from crime by fear of law. Its the mindset which needs to be changed.

just pass a death penalty bill and enforce it then compare the statistics. Indeed it wont stop men from raping women but the ratio will drop alooooooooooot.

and NO education cant change LUST of men.

I ain't criticizing the video. It's very good and tries to provoke thoughtful introspection but i don't approve of the communication medium. Why only english?
How many of the men accused of rape, eve teasing or sexual harassment can understand what this video is trying to convey?
Won't similar videos in other languages (say bhojpuri or marathi or kannada) be more effective in bringing the point home?

PS: It's not my intention to accuse bhojpuri and/or marathi or kannada speaking populace as the culprit. These languages are just used as an instance.

Rape can be for a variety of reasons. But better awareness and policing, rather than education or preaching equality of the sexes is the key.

Rape is also a problem in some of the most developed Nations, where literacy is 100% and women are just as active in the social fabric as men. I don't know why people tend to think that education or death penalty will solve it.
