But only 4 helicopter landing spots at a time on the upper deck vs 6 on the Mistral. This ship is smaller and only one recessed armament deck for the Phalanx at stern. The bow Phalanx is strangely placed right on top of the deck of the ship vs the 4 recessed corner deck platforms on the Mistrals. The French design IMO is more ergonomic and effective. More contained placement of units and no deck space taken for defensive armament like where they placed the vertical launch system also on the deck surface aft. Only 1 center bow anchor vs 2 on the Mistrals, makes a big difference with stability when anchored in heavy current.

Also this is obviously just a helicopter carrier only and not an LHD amphibious assault ship like the Mistral.

I agree, but it packs quite a punch with its armaments..and some quite sophisticated electronic, communication navigation and radar suites.. this is what I was trying to point to..

I do like the VLS, perhaps something they can modify and add on the Mistrals, without taking too much critical space on the deck. That might be a tough thing to do, though, and with fast attack escorts or even corvettes, they might not need to.

Hyuga is a helo carrier while Mistral is a LHD.

Mistral will be more versatile and suit more scenario of warfare. Nobody build helo carrier except Japanese. All countries including US and PLAN goes for LHD.

I like the missile decoys they lob.

Possibly more impressive and definitely scarier is the Admiral Nakhimov nuclear battlecruiser in that video you posted which is supposed to be operational sometime in 2018? If it ends up with the larger of those Zaslon radars and will supposedly be equipped with the hypersonic Tsirkon missiles by 2022 and the 96 S-300Fs air defense missiles it has and 40 anti submarine rockets with 100 launchers and 20 Granit missiles or some crazy thing like that.

To think that all the experts said that the Pacific War would be the last ever naval engagement that involved these mega battleships were apparently quite wrong. This thing is scary.

A big change on the horizon from the small to the large Russian combat ships, take a look at this upcoming Corvette with a destroyer fire power..

This Russian small-displacement ships will operate in the middle of the high seas, close to the coasts and even in rivers. This new ship has a full arsenal of missiles, torpedoes and anti-submarine weapons, more suitable for cruisers than for Corvettes. It will be capable of launching massive missile salvos on coastal targets, aircraft carriers, submarine hunting, and the provision of fire support to amphibious landing forces.
But the main advantage of the ship, developed by the Krylov Research Center, is its low cost.
As was told to "Izvestia", the new Corvette project has already been studied in principle and received positive reactions.

The Corvette is equipped with 24 vertical launchers type 3S-14 for long-range Caliber cruise missiles and Onyx anti-ship missiles. This armament is more than similar Boyan-M or Karakourt-type ships and slightly less than the Destroyer "Leader".
The Corvette has also a strong air defense system consisting of 16 long-range missiles and 32 short-range missiles. In addition to a 100-mm A-190 automatic canon, two AK-630 hexagonal 30 mm cannons and an "AK-630 Duet" Composed of 2 AK-630 guns. The submarine is equipped with 324 mm "Paket-NK" torpedo pipes.

Then you obviously dont know the Japanese policy and restrictions. After WWII there were a lot of restrictions on Japan especially in terms of naval warships. They always change the names and designations to not violate these restrictions and treaties. They might call it Helo carrier but its just as much as a LHD as any other. The US ofcourse is willingly to turn a blind eye to it.

Your first sentence has no relevance to the post you mentioned, it is a troll sentence, for the rest I am aware of it, but Russia has equivalent systems that Egypt can get.. and Japan has changed its policy about weapon systems sales, so it is possible to buy some systems from Japan too; see its bid for Australian new submarines that France won against Japanese systems.. of course you are not aware of this..

What do you mean an LHD like any other? It's strictly a helo carrier, no? I don't think it's an amphibious assault ship like the Mistral or the USS WASP. It doesn't have a stern gate and interior dock where it can deploy a landing craft with troops or mechanised armor or even a landing craft cushion.
