I have to disagree with the Lisbon guy though.
In this war the only winners are usa,uk and china. These guys get to increase their arms sales and sell their anti Russia propaganda.
India has to walk a tightrope diplomatically like many other countries, 20k students have their futures in jeopardy , economic shocks due to high oil Bills, etc.
China improves its profile as a responsible , stable state amongst all the finger wagging.
The Indian media is mostly confused. On one hand a tried and tested friend Russia, on the other a hapless country. No reason for them to support one version. Just report the facts on the ground. No need to editorialize.
The invasion is a over reaction without doubt. Putin has fallen for the American and British machinations and over committed himself.

It is not just woke to support Ukraine. Putin's Russia is China's junior partner without a doubt. China will prop up the regime like it helps keep North Korea and Venezuela afloat. Perpetually on life support, Russia will take China's side in any major conflict with India. It cannot afford not to as long as the west does not like Putin. Infact, it is believed by many that Soviet delayed the delivery of MIG 21 to India even back in 1962 because Soviet preferred China over India.

I am scratching my head.. Why is Indian media on the side of Ukraine when Russia for all intents and purposes is an all time Indian ally ? Are these people stupid ? or appeasing western white anglos is more important than standing by your ally ( if not openly then at least being neutral)

I think @Wood got it mostly right that Ukraine is the underdog and the popular mood worldwide is to support the underdog. However as the war and the accompanying narratives unfold, I expect to see shifting positions in the Indian media (they do it shamelessly all the time). They lack independent thinking.
