A man hacked his friend to death in a fit of rage in Nayapul, a busy area close to the historic Charminar, in the old city of Hyderabad on Wednesday night.

A video of Abdul Khaja, an autorickshaw driver from Chanchalguda area, attacking Shakeer Qureshi with a butcher’s knife repeatedly on his head, shoulders and neck, went viral on social media late in the night. Qureshi was an auto rickshaw driver.

The video was apparently shot by a few onlookers, who did not intervene to stop 29-year-old Khaja from assaulting Qureshi.

As 30-year-old Qureshi fell on the ground, Khaja sat beside him, held him tightly and butchered him with the knife repeatedly. After committing the crime, he stood up and shouted that Qureshi had threatened him with a knife and hurled abuses at him.

Hyderabad Police said in a late-night statement that the murder took place in the Mirchowk police station limits. “Because of the immediate response by a constable, the accused was arrested within 10 minutes from the spot,” the release said.

The video, however, shows a couple of police constables present at the scene could not stop the attack. A traffic policeman, however, attempted to stop Khaja by hitting him on his back but could not stop him.

Assistant commissioner of police (Mirchowk) B Anand said Khaja was drunk and that previous enmity was the motive behind the killing.

Police said Khaja had given his auto rickshaw to Qureshi on rent and he, in turn, gave it to another friend Akeel. When an angry Khaja questioned Qureshi’s decision he allegedly abused him, his mother and sister.

“That led to the fight between the two and Khaja, in a fit of rage, killed Qureshi,” police said.

Just for the record, if you aren't aware of the details, somebody, 'A', rented his autorickshaw to somebody else, 'B', but 'B' got cute and rented it in turn to 'C', and that was not part of the deal. 'A', a butcher, went to the meeting to discuss this with 'B' carrying his butcher's knife, apparently with no particular malicious intent. During the meeting, that quickly turned into a quarrel, 'B' lost his temper, grabbed 'A's knife and hacked him down with it. Hacking him is a figure of speech; the attack was a long-drawn out, the man was apparently out of his mind - temporarily - and kept returning to the huddled body to hack at it again.

There was NOTHING religious about this horrible incident; there was NOTHING political; it was NOTHING to do with the snarky reasons given by idiot friends of ours, fellow members of the forum. It is saddening to see them grasp at flimsy opportunities to flail around and try to fling what chimpanzee poo they can at those whom they so childishly hate.

This was a crime and as you can see both the perpetrator and victim were Muslims.

Hmmm B should go with self defense defense. Point that A came with full intention to kill and I just used self defense.

As for the incident. The thing is it doesn't matter if the A was Muslim or B was Muslim or both were Hindu. The point is if the incident was religiously motivated. If not then its another regrettable crime which should not be seen with the lenses of religion or politics.

For example if A a Muslim robber in karachi robs B a Hindu on bike then this is not a religiously motivated incident. Its simply a crime. A would have robbed anybody irrespective of his religious or political affiliation. Thus such an incident cannot be used to malign Pakistan. Joe I hate it when religious or political colours are given to an event that had nothing to do with it...

If what you say is true then thus thread is regrettable and op should have done research. Either the title should be amended or the thread should be closed..
