Hyderabad Airport becomes 1st International airport to get accredited ISO 5

May 21, 2013: SGS has certified GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHAIL) for ISO 50001:2011 Energy Management Systems Standard, ‘Design, Construction, Operation and Maintenance of airport facilities’. The Japan Accreditation Board (JAB) was responsible for the accreditation.

GHIAL received the ISO 50001:2011 certification on March 6, 2013, at the GMR HIAL Project Office in Shamshabad, Hyderabad. Paul House, Managing Director of SGS India Pvt. Ltd was present to award the certificate to G.U.G. Sastry, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of GHIAL. Nagaraj Ranganathan, Director–SSC, SGS India Pvt. Ltd, was also present in addition to staff members of SGS and GHIAL.

Speaking on the occasion, Paul House, Managing Director of SGS India said, “This certification makes GHIAL the world’s first airport to achieve the ISO 50001:2011 certification for energy management. It demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to improve energy performance through energy efficiency, use and consumption. All these aspects have been clearly demonstrated by GHIAL.”

GHIAL is the world’s first international airport to receive the ISO 50001:2011 certification for energy management. This standard enables organisations to establish systems and processes necessary to increase energy intensity and efficiency along with better management of energy use and consumption.

Speaking during the event, G.U.G. Sastry, COO of GHIAL praised SGS for its professional approach, patience in understanding the business process, and providing the added value to manage and improve overall energy efficiency for GHIAL.

Isn't this airport the largest (by size) airport in Aisa or somthing?

No where close. Not even the largest the India. Largest in Asia and and the World is the Chinese one in Beijing.

I know by capacity/passenger numbers it is only 6th or somthing. I just though it read somewhere it was the largest in terms of land area occupied or internal volume or somthing. Could be wrong on all counts though.


Hopefully I'll be visiting the busiest of India's airports sometime in the next month.

Looks swanky. Congrats to Hyderabadis :cheers:. Yaar Mumbai airport ko bhi jaldi theek karo,though last time I went there construction on terminal 2 was going on.
