Being a naysayer is the easiest thing to do. It doesn't matter if what he said turns out to be right or not. If you have a choice, would you say a word of support to a great group of nationalistic Pakistanis who are actually working hard to achieve something meaningful, or would you paint a picture of doom and gloom before them? If you visualize defeat, you will always be handed defeat.
This effort has nothing to do with the greatness or the nationalistic attitude of the people involved. These are eleven 'STUDENTS' who are working on this as an 'ACADEMIC RESEARCH PROJECT', something 'MANDATORY' to get their degrees. After the completion or required minimal progress on this project, they'll get their degrees and move on simple as that. In the absolute absence of Government or private-sector support, these project are bound to remain in the Theses or dissertation books of the students and forgotten soon. I have personally seen the library of NED University full of such ideas, with considerable progress made and now eating dust.

Dude, the Car-Mafia does not let your government (even Musharraf had to comply with their demands) import the second hand cars which are badly needed by the middle class, how on earth would it (car-mafia) as well as Patrol and CNG-Mafia let this hybrid car go into production? I am not negative, only telling about the ground realities.

Jail rd is chockablock full with dealerships that are oozing used cars. Used cars are imported all the time:

As for the middle class, how much does a Suzuki Alto cost again? Is there not a sufficient supply of used Suzukis in Pakistan?

And for the record, in your original post you didn't go to the trouble of employing fact or logic... you were just generally dismissive and suggested these bright young students would surely end up abroad. THAT is not a fact. THAT is conjecture based on an abundance of negativity.

To each his own. If you are in Canada, or someone else lives in the UK or USA, that's great... wonderful... it's your choice and you're free to make it. But to just spew negativity toward bright young Pakistani minds while you yourself are sitting abroad... what the heck is the point in that?

Only you could tell me how on earth a middle class person who makes between RS 7,000 and 30,000 can buy a car in Pakistan.

Well if these kids had Dads, Mamams, and Chachas who would place them in good positions, than obviously they would not leave; there is no better place than Pakistan to make money from simple 'haram khouri'. However, if they belonged to the middle class, with no 'sifaarish' or 'rishwat' and only talent, they are bound to end up in places where they would get position solely based on their qualifications and talent.

Yes, you are absolutely right. No middle class people in Pakistan own cars. There are no consumer credit programmes which is exactly why the number of cars in Pakistan has greatly diminished in the last 10 years. In fact, no one other than the fil.thy rich can afford a car in Pakistan.

I also agree that every single job at Bank Alfalah, Telenor, Warid, Wateen, Mobilink, MCB, UBL, Ufone, Systems Ltd., Netsol, TRG, China Telecom, TCS, Nestle, Samsung Pakistan etc. etc. is only given to people who have chachas running the show there. There are no middle class employees at these companies. In fact, what the heck, while we're at it, how about we just undo this whole middle class fallacy... there is no middle class. Everyone in Pakistan is dying of a number of ills. Zardari runs around at night injecting people with viruses of a variety of different types.

Thank God you are far away from such a miserable and hellish environment. How clever of you!

Since we've solved this problem, allow me to exit this cheerful discussion...

I wish that they invent a device to daignose our Politicians before we vote for them.

There has never been shortage of engineers in Pakland , just that there is no gov support to local engineering companies (cars) mainly

Pakistan has let in forigne vehicales which have killed off any local industries to develop

So basically another subprime-mortgage-like crisis is brewing and this time in Pakistan.

My post was about Researchers/Engineers/Scientists.

Indeed I am thankful to God, I can do something usefull otherwise I had no chance.

Not really, a proper check is conducted before financing is provided unlike the American Banks who literally handed out mortgages to everyone without doing a proper check. Pakistan's Banking System on the contrary is quite strong. I have interned at MCB and TD Canada Trust in Toronto, i have found the Pakistani Banking System to be as stable but much more faster.

Thats strange than; i am wondering how my friends who were senior to me have managed to land themselves job in Pakistan after graduating from UET, GIK and NUST without the help of their chacas and mamas. I am surprised this age old stereotypes still exist. The best you can do is land an Entry Level job with sifarish, but after that its your performance that matters not whom you know.

Indeed I am thankful to God, I can do something usefull otherwise I had no chance.

Well thats you Sir and i wish you the best of luck. But i am glad my generation is different, the majority of people i know from my batch who either are in Pakistan or studying abroad like me intend to live in Pakistan and make our country a better place to live. Afterall, nobody else is going to come and clean up our mess.

^^^ I never knew everything is so green in Pakistan; I wonder why almost everyday I receive 3-5 CVs from Pakistani graduates who show interest to work here. I have not visited Pakistan is last three years, maybe things have changed, maybe family, friends, and colleagues back in Pakistan have been telling me fake stories.

While it is so easy to be cynical; there are changes taking place (slowly unfortunately) in the subcontinent. Earlier, similar things used to be said in India as well; but times are changing now. These young men should be supported in their endeavours and especially to ensure that they do not have to leave their country. This will help to ease pressure on scarce resources and that is a great cause.
Hope that this achievement receives full publicity.

This car will never see production no matter what; I hate to say this but I can bet my life on this bitter reality. Sooner or later the team members would have to leave the country in search of better professional opportunities abroad. There is simply no need or place for such 'brains' in Pakistan.

It's not that bad. I have quite a few Nustian's as friends, most are still in country and earning a decent wage whilst working on amazing projects like USB 3.0.

.
Guys Whats the Pakistani equivalent of the Indian IITs, IIMs etc...?

Im assuming "Nustian" is the top tech institute....
Would be great if someone could could create a thread about great schools in Pakistan....

Thanks in advance...
