Husain Haqqani: West's Favorite "Expert" on Pakistan

If you want to malign a country as a proclaimed expert, trick is not to show your bias. Best lies are mixed with some truth. Mr. Hussain fails miserably here. His hate for state of Pakistan and its institutions oozes out of every pore of his body. As a wounded mad dog, he really does not measure his words. As I see it, he is not taken seriously by those who really matter in power circles of capital hill. His opinions are relegated to friendly noise of pro Indian lobby. For example he entirely missed sentiment of US which sees Pak-China economic engagement as a positive development. So I say worry not, guy has lost credibility and his passage to great riches had been blocked by military already. He is going down and he knows it.

After having provided $40 billion in aid to Pakistan since 1950, the U.S. is now viewed favorably by only 14% of Pakistanis.

Yeah no wonder, its nothing to do with being American, it is just that you used our bases to spy on USSR, you used our people to bring down USSR, you left us with the mess you created in Afghanistan, then again you came back threatened us and used our resources as we owed you big time, killed our people, spied on us, humiliated us, tried to corner us, tried backstabbing us in Afghanistan, and still people like Haqqani think USG gave us aid? And in more than half a century it is $40bn only. If we had charged you rent for our resources that you misused we would have earned a lot than mere peanuts.

And for Haqqani ...................... well kanajr kanjar he rehy ga chahy wo Amreeka he q na chala jy :enjoy:

It is easy to shoot the messenger

His message is simple but uncomfortable - a lot of American help did not buy America lasting popularity with the Pakistani public. Why should Pakistan's love affair with China be any different ?
Better do some study before posting childish comments on forums.
Uncle sam and chinese have total different philosophy and strategy.

Its not the question of Hussain Haqqani understanding. Its more of a price @RiazHaq

If China pays him more and give him a position in their think tank and pay him more money than he is getting in US, he will sing songs for China. These are 'for sale' people. They dont have ethics.

Husain Haqqani faults Pakistanis for their ingratitude to the US. My question is: Why is Haqqani is so ungrateful to Pakistan, a country that nurtured and educated him and gave him the honor and plum assignment of being Pakistan's ambassador to Washington?

He was a hand pick of the most corrupt person of Pakistan Mr zardari. And he got a kick on his *** as he tried to do his nonsense in Washington as an ambassador.
He is an absconder, living abroad and doing bak bak on daily basis to remain in media.

What happened to Shuja Nawaz? I found him to be the most insightful when he was heading the Atlantic Council.

He is not longer Head of the South Asia Center (unfortunately).

He is retired now and living in Virginia. He still does some advisiory and consulting type stuff, i think planning a new book

He is quite simply put a disgraceful human and disloyal to the core. Pakistan made him and yet today he has the audacity to moan and bitch about that same country. Even dogs have more decency and shame than him.

he should be behind bars for treason.....i hope he does something to piss off the Americans so he gets deported

(im assuming they havent given him a green card yet)

Haqqani can hell bent for money, why are we even discussing this traitor here, a modern day Mir jaffer.

Knowing that he's worked at Boston College and Hudson, he's probably an American.

The Weekend Interview with Husain Haqqani: A Hostage in Pakistan - WSJ

He's an opportunists. Joining hands with Islamist when it suits him, then claiming he's suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.

@RiazHaq sire, I think it's fair to say many people expected more writing from you on this. 8-)

Yes that happens. People get angry at the "messenger" often.

But you gotta understand the background of the messegner.

He was the 5th columnist socialist in yesterday's Pakistan.

These socialists are the ones who created anti-American hype in the Pakistan of 50s and 60s.

Now they turn around and be the judge and jury and attorneys of the case "Why US is unpopular in Pakistan".

And i think such messengers should really be discredited, not by pointing to what they say NOW

But where they STOOD yesterday and perhaps still there even today while living in the USA, the very country they all loathed only few years back.

I hope you understand such socialists and commies.

Don't you?

Well saiid TM, well said.

@RiazHaq is good, but he still is a puny little blogger in the land of giant and well known authors like HH.

So while I commend all the efforts of RH, I don't see his work making any difference in the US talking heads.

At the same time, I don't see much impact of Haqqani on the military policies of USA.

US decides to give weapons to Pakistan.

Haqqani raises a shrill voice. No body listens beyond few academics.
Riaz bhai raises his shrill voice against Haqqani. sadly nobody listens beyond few posters like me on PDF.

So in the end it may be a storm in a teacup.

What this guy can do is spread false propaganda about Pakistan. Western agent..

Hussain Haqqani is only a traitor and low life scum who shouldn't be even a called a Pakistani as he brings shame and nothing more .He should be brought to Pakistan and be charged for crimes against the state. Zardari's puppet and personal bang bag.
Spot on!

Since this news article has been published, we have witnessed many readers accept Mr. Haqqani’s opinions as the official position of the U.S. government, which is not the case. Our decision to conduct an arms sale worth a billion dollars, our current and future plans of conducting several joint military exercises with Pakistan, and our constant acknowledgement of the achievements of operation Zarb-e-Azb should be clear representation of where we stand in our relationship with Pakistan. Ever since the beginning of operation Zarb-e-Azb, Gen. Lloyd Austin III, Commander of U.S. Central Command, and Gen. Campbell, Commander of Operation Resolute Support in Afghanistan, have both testified to congress about the achievements and sacrifices of the Pakistan military against militancy in the region.
