I don't know why people are making a big fuss out of this.

Considering the normal 8 to 5 working hours the only problem would be for Zohar and Asar prayer.
Zohar prayer can be done in lunch break.

For Asar prayer they can ask management for 10-15min break.
10-15 min is more than enough.

As stated in the article they all wanted to pray at the same time which management refused.

So why make an issue out of this?(for muslim workers)
You can pray single or if you want to do it Ba Jamat then they can ask for leave for 2 people at the same time as 2 are must for Ba Jamat prayer.

And at the end all muslim workers who took a prayer break must put in extra 10-15 mins work to compensate it.

What are the break times?

Breaks may be staggered so that you you might be working 1:45 first, then 2hrs.

Been a long time since I worked hourly, so that may not be the pattern anymore. I expect it's very similar though.

I would guess a facility of the type involved in this dispute would run at least two shifts, which would mean a start time for the first shift at 6 or 7 in the morning. Second shift would start when the first shift ended. There might be a third "graveyard" shift as well. Typically, second shift and graveyard get small boosts in pay for doing the odd shift.

As meat processor would need one shift per day as cleanup, as I understand it - they go through thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing all the equipment. That would be the last shift of the day.

We are not going to give Muslims more time off than non-Muslims. That would be a double-standard. Further, we are not going to change our entire society because it makes you uncomfortable. You move here, you adapt. We have the same rules for everyone, Jews, Muslims, Christians, atheists, and others. If we have to make special rules for Muslims, that is definitely a problem.

If you don't like it, by all means, stay in Pakistan. Dream of moving to Saudi Arabia and getting your hand cut off, fi that works better for you.

What if they only have Murican nationality?
The go back to your desert thing is not practical for all Muslims of your country

We are supposed to follow sunnah and Quran. 5 daily prayers are sunnah as well as fard. (Compulsory).

Companies in Pakistan get pissed off if you demand Namaz breaks why do you think a USA company will be ok with that?

though i don't understand why you dedicated that verse to me i will say that lot of subcontinent muslims, especially the naya musalmaan type are not comfortable with true islam but they are really in a constant competition to be seen as more pious than their neighbor and their colleague and their "friend", whether this be in dressing or face hair modification or whispering prayer loudly in the mosque or be seen in the mosque constantly or the twice-per-five-years hajj ( this is especially so in india ).

Anyway it is actually necessary to pray 5 times a day? I have known some Muslims and they definitely did not pray 5 times a day.

I guess that might be this response was generated b/c of rude behavior of supervisors.It is not like they said:'Hey! can I please go it's time for me to pray' and manager replied:'No, sit down and work' and then he cried:'World is cruel to me,Umreeka mean to me,no rights! me going..!

Imagine 150 people are leaving altogether:They must have faced some really rude or racist responses.Do not conclude anything,unless you don't know what really happened!
Such responses or resistance is only generated when humiliation or insult on religion basis is thrown at,or else nobody likes to become jobless.
Imagine 200 employs! Use some sense and do listen to everyone before coming up to conclusion.
Praying five times is obligatory upon muslims. Those who don't are not good practicing muslims.
