HONG KONG (Reuters) - China's Huawei Technologies [HWT.UL] said on Tuesday revenue in the first half of the year grew 23.2% - faster than a year ago - despite an intense U.S. campaign against it that ultimately became a trade ban from mid-May.

Unlisted Huawei, which only started disclosing quarterly results this year, said revenue in the first half rose to 401.3 billion yuan ($58.28 billion) from 325.7 billion a year ago, with smartphone shipments reaching 118 million units, up 24%.

Huawei's supply chain was significantly disrupted when it was put on a trade blacklist by Washington in mid-May. The U.S. government alleges it is a national security risk as its equipment could be used by Beijing to spy, which Huawei has repeatedly denied.

LMAO look at what title the BBC chose to use for this news:-

Huawei sees trouble ahead despite revenue rise

Chinese telecoms firm Huawei saw a sharp jump in revenue in the first half of the year but warned of "difficulties ahead".

The US blacklisted the firm in May, restricting its ability to trade with US companies.

Company revenue jumped 23% in the first half of the year versus a year ago, while smartphone shipments surged 24%.

Huawei has been under global scrutiny blah blah blah...

even when there is good news about China they still report it in a way that implies "China collapse".

It is all the media in the 5 eyes countries that are extremely anti-China. The Anglo-Saxon white supremacists cannot stand the fact China is rising.

In fact they do it to any country that isn’t subservient to their white supremacy.

How is it only Anglo Saxon white people?

Many people are uncomfortable with the idea of a rising China as it is right now, which includes for example Japanese, Indians, Vietnamese, etc.

Huawei's shipments rose 31% amid a 6% decline in the overall market. wow.

After Mr Trump steps down, Huawei should hire him as a brand ambassador.

That is only China, I don't think anyone expected Huawei to have major trouble in China.

Also, the sanctions were imposed much late in H1, so their effect can only be measured in H2 and actually in H1 2020.

Anglo Saxon white almost controls mainstream public opinion in the world.

That is power of discourse.

Well they do control to some extent, but not completely. l

India has on multiple occasions gone totally against western media or consensus.

In fact our current government is not very popular with foreign media.

A large reason why these countries are negative is also because China has not given confidence to these countries that it will act in a way that will be respectful to these countries' interests.

Also, China has a very very poor track record at soft power and at influencing hearts and minds.

True, the non-Anglo white people overall have a much more balanced mentality.

Just look how Huawei is respected among those non-Anglo western nations.

You are right here.

The CCP has focused most of its energy on economic development, followed by the military (to protect economic development from plunder), and little attention has been paid to other sectors.

Although I think it is kinda appropriate, fame and face are not as important as money / economic development.

Most of the Americans are not Anglo-Saxons.

Also, even most of the Europeans don't necessarily have a very positive view of China.
