What's new

Huawei downplayed the Google problem in the Mate 30, but it’s a major issue for consumers

I once bought a phone from China.

There's no Play Store or anything Google.

Must installed by myself.

But I quite disappoint with Huawei Mate 30.

I thought they are going to use HarmonyOS in this one.
Its makes no different. Harmony OS has no huge software support. While android has a huge software based. Why reinvent the wheel? Android is an open source free OS. Google cannot stop it. Yes, you can install GMS yourself and will the most take you 30mins. Mind you, its only one time installation. I dont think it will cost too much hassle if Huawei smartphone hardware is much superior to rival of the same category but lower price.

The only loser here is Google. Under normal circumstances, Google licenses the latest version of Android, currently Android 10, for phone manufacturers to use. The Mate 30 phones will instead be powered by open-source Android and run EMUI 10, Huawei's user interface that approximates Google's Android 10. Furthermore, the Mate 30 will come with an unlockable bootloader allowing users to sideload Google apps if they choose to do so.

End result: Google doesn't get the license fee. Huawei users still get Google apps.

I wonder about the future...

After Google released newer and newer version of Android?

Huawei Android will not be able to run newer version of apps.

That's 1000 steps backwards for China.
That is your opinion only. For me, its not a big problem. If you think its a big problem. Checkout youtube on the amount of demo telling user how to install GMS on Chinese honor smartphone for years... If its a big problem for Huawei, why it smartphone volume sales continue to climb over the years?

I would not mind a little hassle that occurs only once for a much superior hardware smartphone with value for money price than buy inferior hardware but overprice smartphone.
