What's new

how to handle a functional schizophrenic..

Somehow give her anti-depressants by thoroughly mixing in juice or tea or any other unsuspecting food/drink

You are clearly not a medical professional giving such advice.

And what if she has an element of BPAD / Schizoaffective disorder? Or an affective mood element?

Do you know antidepressants can make such conditions worse due to their alerting properties.

And what antidepressant are you recommending exactly? Are you going to deal with her manic presentation if that's the case?

What If she realises her family are conspiring against her. Will that validate her delusional / persecutory beliefs? How do you expect mental health professionals to treat her condition when it's actually true that people have conspired against her.

Will she go off her food and drink? Are you going to go to their home to manage her dehydration and reefeeding risk in that scenario? Will you check her renal function?

Please do not advise on a topic you are not familiar with.

dont self diagnose. Maristan.org and khalilcenter.org are US based resources who have both a foot in psychiatry and islamic side of things.
There are supposed to be revival of hospitals in Turkey that use music therapy to treat schizophrenia, but this has to be proper diagnosis.
Us brown muslims generally, and women specifically are abnormally low on vit d3. get that checked and if low get that normalized.

Same situation here with sister. Not schizophrenic, but has some disorder. She rarely goes out, won't work etc etc.

Dear OP,

PDF being an online forum of individual members as such administration cannot vouch for the qualification or experience anecdotal or otherwise of members posting on what is a mental health issue.

Being schizophrenic is NOT crisis nor a medical emergency. It does however require an appropriate specialist to triage and assess the person in question.

My sincere advice to you being someone who is of the medical fraternity (EMT) - is to consult an authorised mental health practitioner or similar designated medical professional.

I have worked with many people suffering varying degrees of mental health and crisis and from what you have said, your family member is in the intervention stage.

I'm sure living in Australia you can find her the help she needs.

All the best.
