It's not going to work under the current scenario. SAARC does not have any security pact as of now, so it's far from it. And I doubt if it will ever happen.

Very good point. We need some sort of Defense pact within South Asia and it should be step by step Process. But there is one big problem Arunanchal and Kashmir's section inside Chinese border. For this we need to settle the border. Then we have a single International border of South Asia. And in my opinion IRAN and Myanmar should be included in SAARC as a full member. In future when borders are clearly accepted then we should include Tibbet,Yunnan and westernmost province of China as a representative of China.
Then only SAARC will reap the benefits of its strategic location by connecting SE ASIA, CHINA,CIS nations and middle east.

In my opinion border problems are going to be solved between China and India soon. My only worry is Kashmir.

Perhaps you didn't read carefully. I'm not advocating free Tibet speech here that's why I have mentioned representative of China. China comes in east Asia. Its Tibet province is counted as a south Asian in informal way. Yunnan has long history of engagement with NEF and Myanmar. Westernmost province has the same engagement with Afghanistan & Pakistan if I am correct.
