How to boost Pakistan’s dwindling exports

Real reason for sluggish export is

1. Incompetent Industrialist
2. Lack of Innovation
3. Competition understanding
4. Silo Approach
5. No investment in R&D
6. Non availability of professionals for industries
7. Ignorance about future markets (Africa ,Latin America)
8. Serious in balance of Supply and Demand locally (country who is importing so much finished goods other than raw materials cant export
9. Flawes mechanism (Over Invoicing and under invoicing)
10.Tax (Stupid WHT .GST ,1/6 Invoice Values, CVT ) Bla bla

Solution
1. JV with foreign operators (Dawlance)
2. Academic and Industry collaborations
3. Hire firms and professionals across the globe
4. collaborate rather than compete
5. R&D investment Must at least 5% of profit
6. Professionals from around the globe
7. Trade delegates to Africa and Latin America
8. Stop Cheating FBR
9. Target Based industries e.g imported items such as cars,Cell phones should be localized
10. FBR simplified tax systems

Fair point.

Not just CPEC. There are many other similar programs going on all over Pakistan (albeit smaller) not only with China but joint ventures with Turkey too. Also there have been many economic reforms in Pakistan over the past 4 years too. That is helping a lot aswell. CPEC IS mentioned the most because it is under the international media microscope. The other programs are not given their due credit as they less well known even in Pakistan.
Great point. CPEC is an infrastructure project that does not mean to produce a lot economic output when one looks at in isolation. Instead it means to facilitate enormous economic programs/businesses at various sizes thoughout Pakistan, which is going to produce massive economic output.

Pakistan is seeing such a huge market internally, why export when trader are getting prime dough in the local markets.
Pakistan export are falling year over year, and imports are rising year over year, Rupee is stable vis-a-vis dollars, Forex are increasing....math dont add up, something is number 2 here.

there is only one way...hang the corrupt politicians, their families and collaborators and set up professional management especially the stock exchange needs to be honest and unright......

1. Substitution Effect. Doesn't work.
2. Just because the exports are stagnant means what? The purchasing power of Pakistan sits at around $900 Billion.

The reason Pakistan has declining exports is the high costs of inputs, namely electricity. As another member has said the global market is stagnant itself. Meaning the processed and manufactured goods aren't being traded as freely as before if the 2nd/3rd tier economy is stagnant it will flow back upstream to the producers of the extraction sector. Why would Gucci buy surplus leather?

The author is correct in that Pakistan has to roll into the manufacturing stage of economics. Take a look at the fears regarding China which is attempting to transition into a consumer driven society having seen their population's wages increase, become educated, and affluent they are no longer willing to toil from 8am to 9pm working in FoxConn's factories.

This Chinese transition can be beneficial for Pakistan. Chinese businesses that have contracts for RalphLauren, Zara, Apple need to deliver and there's no lack of Pakistan's 200 million people willing to work to meet those contracts. The question is... can Pakistanis make the necessary companies to 1. work the contracts. 2. eliminate the middle man?

The problem isn't entrepreneurship. Why's Alibaba so damn big? Their website is a pain in the @$$. It's the connectivity to the largest audience.

Pakistan export are falling year over year, and imports are rising year over year, Rupee is stable vis-a-vis dollars, Forex are increasing....math dont add up, something is number 2 here.

IMF or World Bank say karza lakay shopping vi karawa ga.

Nothing just as yet but due to the Chinese presence thanks to CPEC, we are using their expertise, means and know how to set up industries, factories and laying the foundations for complete industrialization.

Good point. In my humble opinion we need to a bit visionary here and look beyond what Pakistan is producing now. With its location, a massive young and educated work force, you can build many different types of industry once the infrastructure including power and transportation are in place.

I believe that strength of pakistan lies in Textile and handicraft work. I see a good potential of pakistan in food processing and milk production. Rather than trying to copy economically powerful nation, pakistan should focus on some basic things such as water conservation, agriculture, education and skill development. That will help them to reach a stage of economic development from where they can think of next level reforms. directly attempting something big will prove counter productive.
