The new Thai king Rama X. inherited from his diseased father 10 billion euros. As he lives in Germany, as officially declared by himself, he should have paid 30 percent of inheritance tax.
However he used a trick: he declared himself as diplomat. As diplomat he does not need to pay the tax.

King pays tax. Diplomat not.

weird tax logic.

Germany tax officials knew the tax trick but accepted it. For a certain political reason. Germany wants the King here.

why tho? Does Thai have special kind of relationship with Germany aside from many parks dedicated to various Thai kings in Hessen and BW?

I don’t know. Whatever the reason he should have paid at least 1 billion euros in tax.

That is weird, he is not a citizen of Germany, nor his dad is a German. Feels like the German trying to scam him.

He lives in Germany. His place of residence in Germany. He must pay tax. Why is it difficult to understand? It’s international practice. You mean foreigners don’t need to pay tax? How’s about Malaysia? Foreigners don’t pay tax?

Pay income tax, property tax, not inheritance tax.
