People die all the time. If suicide by grief is the response then half of the world population would kill itself. If she had been stopped, supported, taken to someplace religious she might have changed her stance over time. No one can take emotional decisions in grief.

Moreover to quote the law, it's illegal to take one's/self life. It's just it's not being implemented for humane reasons. I remember when I was a kid, people who attempted suicide were slapped court charges.
