How subsidized US soybeans hurt Chinese farmers

Trump is chickening out ...he wants to "consult "with China before going through with it. Lol

Maybe because China has hinted to slap very hard on the Dotard Regime if they go ahead with sanctions.

The US will finally learn they do not have comparative advantage against China vis-a-vis trade. Their trade deficit is a leverage, not an asset.

China can hurt them so bad that they will have people's revolution in their redneck deep south or war zone Detroit.

Trump is harping about intellectual property. Miruca doesn't export any significant high tech products to China. Not sure what he's whining about. The insecure dotard . Even rocket man outclassed him

The ambassador to Washington responded to the IP allegations, saying that "they need to get over the illusion that only they can innovate and other can never do it. Gone are the days."

US whining is not because they have lots of IP to be stolen, but very few of them and developing countries are fast catching up.

Who is in the game? China has three national companies.

I just hope Trump goes through with the tariffs and China retaliate by hitting soybean, than cancel all those MOU to purchase boring airplanes. See how bad that will hit them

I also wish so. I do not want reconciliation. Evil needs to come out as a naked evil, not evil in disguise.

By the way, China looks like to have ready its own list of punishables. Still too small but it is just an appetizer.

This round of tariffs is in response to steel and aluminum tariffs by the US. I would be very nervous if I were a US farmer or CEO of the junk maker GM.

But I think China saves the best for last: Soybean, automobiles and aircraft.

China is planning to impose tariffs on 128 types of US imports, totaling an estimated three billion US dollars. The move is seen as Beijing's first signs of retaliation after a string of US trade protection measures, including the latest move by Washington to slam its top partner with tariffs on up to 60 billion US dollars of imports from China.

The list published by the commerce ministry on Friday identifies steel, pipes, nuts, fruits, and wine which will be charged with a 15 percent tariff, while planning to add a 25 percent tariff on pork and scrap aluminum.

The list will be open to solicitation from business associations and local governments until March 31.

Beijing has repeatedly urged the US to show restraint in using and abusing trade protection mechanisms in the name of national security, and has publicly addressed US intellectual property concerns, vowing for a more level playing field, ahead of this reciprocal act.

The list of imports the US feared were going to be targeted by China – soybeans, cars and aircrafts – were not included on the list.

3 b vs 60 b...is this a joke?

.
Buy palm oil from south east asia.
Malaysia and indonesia have plenty of palm oil which the west regime has been slandering that it is unhealthy to consume.

. . . .
3 b vs 60 b...is this a joke?

This is only as a response to steel and aluminum. So, actually, larger than what China's steel/aluminum makers would suffer due to US protectionism.

The 60 billion package has yet to be actualized. China just wants to give a last window of doubt.

The next, bigger, targets are automobiles, soybean and aircrafts.

I guess Boeing shares are not doing so well today.

LOL, watching Trump is indeed fun. The guy has put US institutions into turmoil.

we got plenty of blades to skin a cat , don't be laughing at China yet because when China strikes its gonna be BOOOM :D

Soybeans trade likely to become China’s first retaliation to U.S. tariffs: expert

(People's Daily Online) March 23, 2018

Experts say China is likely to adopt measures on soybean imports from the U.S. as its first move in retaliation to the latter’s increasing tariffs on imports from China, Thepaper.cn reported on March 22.

China’s market receives the largest number of US planes and soybeans. Statistics show that 62% of US soybeans ended up in China. On the other hand, what China exports to the US is mostly something they have no comparative advantage in making or do not make at all, said Hua Chunying, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a press briefing on Wednesday.

The US is on the one hand urging China to buy what it wants to sell, while refusing to sell what China wants to buy, Hua noted.

She called on the two sides to calm down and have constructive dialogues and consultations in the spirit of equality, and furthermore to consider mutual benefits and mutual respect for the purpose of seeking out a win-win solution.

The U.S. President Donald Trump signed on Thursday a memorandum that could impose tariffs on up to 60 billion U.S. dollars of imports from China, despite strong warnings from business groups and trade experts.

The American Soybean Association (ASA) expressed concerns about a potential trade war that may inflict heavy losses on the U.S. soybean industry following the U.S. decision to hike tariffs on China’s steel and aluminum imports, the Financial Times reported.

ASA President John Heisdorffer noted that China is the largest buyer of U.S. soybeans in the world. Global competitors in the soybean industry like Brazil and Argentina will be alternatives for China. Also, the potential tariffs would bring US soybean growers a tough life.

ASA’s worry is not groundless. Nearly 62 percent of U.S. soybeans are exported to China, indicating the U.S. soybean industry will be greatly impaired if China sets a trade barrier on soybeans imported from the U.S.

Moreover, soybeans from the U.S. are not irreplaceable to China, as China has been strengthening cooperation with big soybean exporters in South America.

For example, China recently increased its purchasing volume of soybeans in Brazil.

Chi Jingtao, CEO of COFCO, China’s leading foodstuffs conglomerate, noted that the company is to raise its purchasing amount of soybeans from 4 to 7.2 million tons from Mato Grosso each year, according to Reuters in November 2017. The Chinese enterprise is also planning to invest $459 million to build 30 grain barns in Brazil.

In addition, Chinese enterprises are helping Brazil with infrastructure construction to help the country improve its export capability of soybeans.
